Visual and Media Arts Department to receive visit of Documentary Filmmaker Sarah Price

Documentary filmmaker, Sarah Price, will be visiting the Department of Visual and Media Arts to show her new film about the feminist grunge band, L7. Price is a producer and director, known for the feature documentaries American Movie (1999), The Yes Men (2003), and Summercamp! (2006). Although documentary work has been her primary focus, Price expanded into commercial work and episodic television, directing her first show for The Carrie Diaries (2013) for Warner Bros. Price is a member of the Director's Guild of America.

The film features some of the band’s home movies, unseen performance footage, and interviews. Krist Novoselic (Nirvana), Shirley Manson (Garbage), Louise Post (Veruca Salt), Joan Jett, Exene Cervenka (X), and others are featured in the production.

The itinerary for Price's visit to GVSU on November 14, 2017 goes as follows:

  • A Screening of L7 at 4:00 p.m. on room 246, Lake Superior Hall
  • A Lecture and Discussion at 6:00 p.m. also on room 246, Lake Superior Hall. In this lecture, Price will talk about working in the media industry while addressing issues of gender discrimination, harassment and making informed career choices.
