Veterans TBI Education Project
(All grant work for this project concluded February 2014. Education materials continue to be available through this site.)
Rehabilitation through Education...
The education is targeted to two populations:
Veterans returning to civilian life face challenges many of us will never experience. As their trusted health care professional, you may have the opportunity to provide valuable guidance to them and to their families during this time.
The first set of educational materials is designed for distribution to veteran patients and their families. This information can help them develop successful coping strategies and provide insight into living with the lasting effects of active deployment, including a traumatic brain injury. The materials are available as both videos and printable documents here: Veteran Patient Education. Although copy written, this content was developed and intended to be printed and distributed to patients and their families. Please feel free to incorporate all material into your patient education resources library.
The second set of educational materials is designed for health care professionals as continuing education modules that qualify for CME Category 1, CNE, and CEU credits for you and/or your interprofessional health care team. These modules correspond to the patient education and focus on the treatment of veterans with TBI and co-morbidities such as post-traumatic stress disorder and depression. The content was developed and peer reviewed by military health experts, to ensure that learners will grow in awareness of military culture and thus be better prepared to aid in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of injured veterans. The courses are available here: Continuing Education for Health Professionals.
As you return to civilian life, you may experience challenges that weren’t covered in your military training. This set of materials was developed with exactly that purpose in mind. These educational videos and documents are catered specifically to the military culture and combat theatre experiences. You can access them here: Veteran Patient Education.
