The Center for Scholarly & Creative Excellence operates within the Academic Affairs division, and includes responsibility for human subjects research, animal research, technology commercialization and sponsored programs (see Sponsored Programs page).

Human Subjects Research

Responsible conduct of human subjects research, regulatory compliance oversight, review and approval of proposed research studies involving living persons, required training, post approval monitoring

Under the leadership of Paul Reitemeier, Committee Chair, the Human Research Review Committee (HRRC) "ensures that the basic rights and welfare of research participants are fostered and protected."  The HRRC website houses extensive resources applicable to research involving living persons, and includes pages addressing topics below.


Animal Research

Regulatory oversight of animal research activities, required training, responsible and humane conduct of animal research, animal welfare and protocols.

Michael Lombardo leads the Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee (IACUC) to "ensure that all animal research at GVSU is conducted in accordance with IACUC standards and complies with the Public Health Service policies and USDA animal welfare regulations."  Policies and procedures regarding animal research are available on the IACUC website, including:


Technology Commercialization Office
