Tim Selgo Honored as Under Armour AD of the Year

June 20, 2013

The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) recently announced that Grand Valley State Director of Athletics Tim Selgo was named the Under Armour Athletic Director of the Year. Selgo just recently completed his 16th year as the head of the Laker athletic department.

The Under Armour Athletic Director of the Year award has 28 winners spanning seven collegiate divisions (NCAA FBS, FCS, Division I-AAA, II, III, NAIA/Other Four-Year Institutions and Junior College/Community Colleges). Along with the other 27 winners, Selgo received his award during the James J. Corbett Awards Luncheon this past Saturday (June 15) at NACDA's 48th Annual Convention in Orlando, Fla.

"I'm honored to be chosen by my peers for this award," Selgo commented. "This award is a reflection of the great work done by the entire GVSU athletic department administrative and support staff. I accept the award on behalf of them."

NACDA Executive Director Bob Vecchione explained the Athletic Director of the Year Award in a press release. "Since 1998, NACDA has been highlighting significant contributions made by athletics directors across all divisions of our membership," said Vecchione. "This award allows athletics directors to be recognized not only nationally, but also in their respective communities which heightens the awareness of their leadership position in the athletics enterprise."

During the 2012-13 athletic year, GVSU won its 15th consecutive Presidents' Cup Trophy, commonly referred to as the All-Sports Trophy among schools in the GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference). 11 Laker teams won conference championships in 2012-13, including men's and women's cross country, men's and women's indoor track and field, men's and women's golf, women's soccer, women's lacrosse, women's outdoor track and field, softball, and baseball.

Furthermore, Grand Valley State finished second in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings, the 12th straight year that GVSU has finished in either first or second place. The Lakers had eight teams finish in the top-10 nationally, highlighted by the women's cross country team winning the 2012 Division II National Championship. The baseball, women's soccer, softball, and women's outdoor track and field teams all finished in third place, while both men's and women's indoor track and field teams placed fourth, and men's cross country finished seventh.
