Academic Year Component



Taking the right classes, prepping for tests, volunteering, getting good grades, and managing your time effectively are just some of the tasks you're going to undertake as a student on the path to college.  But we're here to guide and support you through a variety of opportunities.  Tutoring, workshops, career counseling, and more are all a part of how we help you during your high school years.

The following outlines give you an idea of what to expect during your years at either Central or Union high school.

Requirements for 9th grade TRiO/Upward Bound students

  • Take courses taught by the Upward Bound (UB) staff: Study Skills and Careers
  • Participate in after-school meetings
  • Participate in program approved community projects each semester
  • Volunteer in your community
  • Take the ACT PLAN test
  • Participate in cultural and/or academic events (organized by the UB Program)
  • Follow a college-preparatory curriculum
  • Tutor sessions are required for all earned grades that are below a "C"

Requirements for 10th grade TRiO/Upward Bound students

  • Participate in after-school meetings
  • Participate in program approved community projects each semester
  • Volunteer in your community
  • Take the ACT Plan in October
  • Participate in cultural and/or academic events (organized by the UB Program)
  • Follow a college-preparatory curriculum

Requirements for 11th grade TRiO/Upward Bound students

  • Participate in after-school meetings
  • Participate in program approved community projects each semester
  • Volunteer in your community
  • Enroll in the ACT Prep course taught by Upward Bound staff
  • Participate in cultural and/or academic events (organized by the UB Program)
  • Participate in college tours
  • Follow a college-preparatory curriculum

Requirements for 12th grade TRiO/Upward Bound students

  • Take the pre-college course offered by Upward Bound
  • Take a full college prep curriculum
  • Maintain records of college applications and list the procedures
  • Complete all necessary steps for college acceptance by January of senior year
  • Search for scholarship opportunities and apply for college acceptance by January of senior year
  • Graduate from high school
  • Enroll in a college or university of choice
