Why did you choose to attend Grand Valley?
I chose Grand Valley specifically because of one professor in the Honors College - Dr. Benjamin. We had met and I decided to transfer here from community college so he could be my mentor. It has worked out really well.
What do you like best about Grand Valley?
I have made some really good friends here, so that is one of the great things. And it is small enough that you don't get lost on campus.
How have you benefited from Grand Valley's liberal education foundation?
It has really expanded my mind. You start realizing that there is a lot you haven't considered. And you start looking into things you normally wouldn't have, you start questioning everything a lot more.
How will Grand Valley help you meet your future goals?
I have been exposed to the sort of history here that I like studying. It has helped me take a slightly unconventional view of history. There are very open-minded professors here that teach cutting-edge history. This will help me for graduate studies and from a career point of view, but also very personally. It gives me a niche. It feels right for me for what I want to do.
How has the Honors College enhanced your overall education?
Without the Honors College I wouldn't have taken classes that focus on social science as much or even been able to do the Honors senior project. Plus, being in the Honors College makes you part of an even smaller community that really stands out. You can expect a lot from the professors and the students.
How have you benefitted from living in Honors College housing?
My roommates from last year are now my best friends. We had a lot of fun. Plus, when you have your classes in the same building you live in it is great to be able to quickly go to class. And having the professors' offices here and all the different rooms available if you just want to get away is great too.
Why would you recommend the Honors College to others?
If you are one of the students who like to be challenged, then the Honors College is a place for you. They really push you and the Honors College classes are really small, so you get a lot of personal attention.
