WKKF-WW Michigan Teaching Fellowship

Costs & Financial Aid

Each applicant selected by the Woodrow Wilson Foundation and Grand Valley State University will receive a $30,000 Fellowship in exchange for a three-year teaching commitment to teach in a high needs school. FIfteen Fellows will be selected for admission to each of the 2013 GVSU cohorts. GVSU tuition for Fellows will be the same as for other master’s degree students.

Tuition

You will pay masters level graduate tuition for all of the courses in the program. The 2011-2012 masters level in-state tuition rate is $504 per credit hour. Tuition rate changes are announced at the end of July each year to begin during fall semester and continue through spring/summer semester. (*A 6.5% increase is anticipated to begin in fall 2012.) Grand Valley will award out-of-state Fellows a scholarship to cover the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition rates. The anticipated tuition for 2012 Fellows is listed below.

Financial Aid

In addition to the Fellowship award, you may qualify to receive Financial Aid. Students are encouraged to apply for financial aid by March 1 (for fall enrollment) using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Additional Expenses

In addition to tuition, the financial aid office considers other expenses. Costs vary significantly by Fellow and depend on family size, where you live and your lifestyle. Some of the estimated costs include:

           Book costs are estimated at $100 per credit hour. 

           Housing including utilities etc. is estimated at $1200 per month.

           Board (meals & incidentals) is estimated at $500 per month.

          Transportation & parking** is estimated at up to $1000 per month when in the field

          Personal & health care expenses are estimated at $850 per semester

**GVSU graduate students may pay parking fees of $165 per semester for fall and winter semesters, if they wish to park in the Grand Rapids or Allendale campus lots. Free bus transportation on the Rapid is provided for students with their ID cards.

In addition, Fellows must pay for their Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC) Basic Skills and subject matter tests, background checks, TB test,  first aid and CPR training, and certification fees.
