Postdoc Position

The Target Inquiry (TI) ( www.gvsu.edu/targetinquiry) program at Grand Valley State University (GVSU) is inviting applications for a postdoctoral research assistant. The successful candidate will work primarily on a research project designed to determine how participation in the TI program affects teachers, their teaching practices, and their students. TI began as a professional development program for high school chemistry teachers at GVSU and is now expanding to include the other science disciplines as well as middle school teachers. The program is also being implemented in chemistry at Miami University in Oxford, OH. Data collection will include both quantitative and qualitative measures such as classroom observations, surveys, content tests, and interviews. The project is supported by an NSF DRK-12 grant (DRL-1118658).

The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of data collection and analysis, will work with the project teams at both GVSU and Miami, will have the opportunity to mentor undergraduate students, and will receive support for presentation of their research findings at national meetings. Opportunities to teach undergraduate courses may also be available.

Qualifications for the position include:

  • Ph.D. degree in chemical education or science education with a strong background in chemistry.
  • Strong research, organizational, interpersonal and writing skills required.
  • Experience with both qualitative and quantitative research methods and design.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft office and SPSS is an asset
