Sustainable Community Development Initiative

Green Blogs and Free Press Top Workplaces

Date: May 5, 2010

I want to share two pieces of news about Free Press newsroom initiatives.

First, following on the fun and success of our Green Leaders special section and awards event on Earth Day, we have launched a special corner of our Web site: www.freep.com/green

It contains our coverage of environmental issues coverage, a reprise of the Green Leaders coverage AND two new green bloggers. One of them is Rebecca Salminen Witt, president of Greening of Detroit and one of our Green Leaders. She writes about a range of green activities in the community. (Let her know about yours.) The other blogger is Angelyn Frankenberg, a downtown Detroit resident who writes about making everyday life more environmentally friendly.

We would like you and folks you know to be part of this discussion. Please visit freep.com. At this moment, some of the content is a little dated, but we’ll be freshening it — hopefully with your help.

The second item: I want to make you aware of our 2010 Top Workplaces nomination period, which runs through June 11. In the past two years, the Free Press has honored more than 100 southeast Michigan companies as Top Workplaces based on employee surveys conducted and analyzed by our independent partner, Workplace Dynamics.

This year, we are inviting participation from businesses throughout Michigan that have more than 50 employees in the state.

Here’s the article explaining the program and a link to the nomination form:
