Course Equivalencies for Non-GVSU Programs Students participating in a non-GVSU program must have study abroad courses approved by the relevant department prior to departure. For example, if you are planning to take a history course abroad, you will need to consult with the history department to determine the GVSU equivalency.
The process for securing approval for the course(s) you wish to take abroad is as follows:
1) Carefully review the course options available during the semester you plan to study.
2) Print off the description of the course(s) you are interested in taking at the host institution.
3) Arrange to meet with the chair of the relevant academic department from which you want credit.
4) Present the Study Abroad Credit Form and the host institution course description to the department chair and ask him/her to complete the Study Abroad Credit Form indicating the GVSU course equivalency.
If you have questions about this process, please contact the Padnos International Center.
You may use this document to find the contact information for all academic divisions and individuals who can determine the GVSU course equivalency for your courses abroad. All study abroad courses will be posted on the students' transcript as credit/no credit. Credit is granted for those courses with a grade of "C" or better. The courses will not be factored into the student's GVSU grade point average.
