Study Abroad Program Options

Partnership Programs (Fall, Winter, Academic Year, Summer*)

GVSU partnership programs provide the opportunity to study abroad during the fall semester, spring semester, full academic year, or summer at a GVSU partner institution.   Students participating in a partnership program will not necessarily be accompanied by a GVSU faculty member or GVSU group members.  A variety of course options are available at each partnership institution.  Students can use all of their institutional, state, and federal financial aid when participating in a partnership program.

*Only select partnership programs offer summer study abroad sessions

Faculty-Led Programs (Short Term Programs)

Faculty-led programs range from 2-8 weeks and take place during the summer (exception: China Social Work program during winter break and South Africa Teacher Assisting during winter semester). Each faculty-led program is led by a Grand Valley faculty member.  On average, there are about 10 student participants in each faculty-led program.  Students will register for specific Grand Valley courses depending on the program's focus.  This link will provide you with a list of current programs, as they do change from year to year.

Internships

Grand Valley offers summer internships to help students gain professional experience while abroad.  Destinations include London, Madrid, and Paris.  Internship opportunities will vary depending on students' areas of interest, and Grand Valley credit can be received.  The internships range from 9-12 weeks.

Non-GVSU Programs

Travel Warning Policy

Every year Grand Valley students study abroad on non-GVSU programs accredited by other institutions. Students can apply their financial aid toward the program cost and credits are generally transfered back to Grand Valley.  Students seeking to study abroad on a non-GVSU program must apply through the Padnos International Center before applying directly to the sponsoring organization.  For more information on these programs, students can follow our links, or stop into the Padnos International Center to pick up non-GVSU catalogs.

Although many students choose to study abroad via traditional study abroad programs, others may participate in independent study projects. Independent study abroad may include the following:
