Cultural Engagement Study Abroad Scholarship
The purpose of this scholarship is to make study abroad opportunities attainable to students who want to learn and experience new cultures.

 

Frances Anne Kelleher Memorial Scholarship
The purpose of this scholarship is to assist students studying history or social studies with the costs of studying abroad to enhance their education at GVSU.

 

Mary A. and Wilhelm W. Seeger Global Programs Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to students enrolled in a short-term study abroad program of less than eight-weeks, including but not limited to faculty-led programs and overseas internships. Preference will be given to past recipients of the Mary and Wilhelm Seeger Scholarship.

 

BDO USA International Accounting Scholarship

BDO USA views the study abroad experience as a valuable tool for students to prepare themselves for an increasingly international business environment. We look for students who express a desire to broaden their perspective of other cultures and how organizations within those cultures function.

 

Paul and Sue Spindler Accounting Study Abroad Scholarship

This scholarship is designed to encourage and assist students pursuing degrees in accounting to take advantage of the opportunity to study abroad. 

 

Hugo Salazar Memorial Scholarship

To provide encouragement and financial assistance to Spanish majors who have a desire to promote cultural understanding among Spanish speaking populations. Ideal candidates would be students who plan to study abroad and have engaged in service learning projects or activities that increase intercultural awareness of Spanish speaking countries. 

 

GVSU Peace and Justice Award Activist Scholarship

The peace and justice Activist Scholarship award is made to a GVSU student based upon personal, academic, and financial considerations. Any undergraduate student actively pursuing a GVSU degree may apply for the scholarship. In making application, the student is to submit a 4-5 page personal essay and a transcript of college-level academic work. 

 

Brooks College Scholarship for Study Abroad
The purpose of this scholarship is to assist students with the costs of study abroad programs and to encourage students to seek out study abroad experiences that provide a transformational experience in the classroom and in the community.

 

Johnson Leadership Scholarship

The purpose of the Johnson Leadership Scholarship is to provide financial support for students interested in traveling abroad to advance their leadership skills in any career or area of interest. The scholarship will encourage students who are committed to lifelong learning, developing a global perspective and making a difference. By encouraging study abroad, they hope that students will aspire to what is called "Arete", a Greek word that means to live up to one's full potential and greatest effectiveness. 

 

Mullendore Legal Studies and Criminal Justice

The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize and reward students who major in either Legal Studies or Criminal Justice with the intention of entering and contributing to the legal profession and also encourage them to participate in international educational opportunities. 

 

Positive Black Women Scholarship

The original intent of this scholarship was to assist African-American women in developing and achieving their academic goals. Today, this scholarship is offered to any GVSU student who demonstrates a successful service contribution to African American women and girls and/or a demonstrated personal commitment to African American Women’s issues. Students who are studying abroad are encouraged to apply. 

 

Mini-Grants for Latin American Studies Students

The Latin American Studies Gift Fund exists to support the scholarly and professional development of students minoring in Latin American Studies. Students in good academic standing and a faculty reference may apply for mini-grants (up to $500) to support academic conference attendance or participation, study abroad, internships, and major research projects, or student-faculty collaborative research projects.

 

Sean Dykstra CEA Scholarship

In memory of former GVSU & CEA Barcelona student, Sean Dykstra, this scholarship is open to students who are committed to lifelong learning and embracing opportunities for intercultural development.

 

Career Center Internship Award 

The Career Center understands that, while completing an internship is a good idea in theory, it can be financially straining. In an effort to help offset the costs of working in unpaid internships, the Career Center provides ten $500 scholarships to students during the Fall, Winter, and Spring/Summer semesters. Keep in mind that these scholarships all have the same deadline.

 

Secchia Scholars Program - John Cabot University

The Secchia Family Foundation's Secchia Scholars program awards partial tuition scholarships each year to qualifying students. The five types of Secchia Scholarships are available for degree-seeking, visiting and study abroad students applying to JCU. Secchia Scholarships are awarded for one semester or one year. (Semester recipients may reapply for a second semester award.)

 

Seidman Business Study Abroad Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide support to undergraduate and graduate students of business who enhance their university studies by studying in a foreign country. Awards are based on program costs and financial need. 

 

Fred A. Bell Business Scholarship

This scholarship provides financial support and recognition to business students who study in a foreign country. The scholarship is available to undergraduate and graduate business majors, including minors. With support from this scholarship, students can prepare for a global workplace, and position themselves for success in a world that is more diverse, complex, and interdependent. 

 

Computer Science and Information Systems Study Abroad Scholarship

Scholarships are available to CS and IS majors who study abroad at an institution of higher learning in another country. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide students with greater opportunities in their study of computer science or information systems. 

 

Student Legacy Scholarship

In 2007 GVSU student leaders decided to demonstrate their leadership in helping out fellow students with the rising cost of college tuition. Together the student leadership decided that it would be fitting to establish a scholarship and leave a lasting legacy by initiating a scholarship. They believed it demonstrated their continued commitment to affordable learning by investing in their peers. 

 

James F. and Virginia L. Goode Global Programs Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarship is to reduce the financial pressure on students and their families and make a Grand Valley education accessible to students from all backgrounds. This need-based scholarship will ensure that financial need does not become a barrier to intellectual and personal growth for students planning to study abroad.

 

Zeeb International Relations Study Abroad Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide opportunities to study abroad for students majoring or minoring in international relations. 

 

Las Gralarias Foundation Ecuador Study Abroad Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship to support students studying neotropical conservation in Ecuador.

 

Shelby Fazio '13 Memorial Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to assist students who demonstrate an interest in wildlife ecology, conservation, or animal behavior with the costs of studying abroad or scholarship that will enhance their educational experience at GVSU.

  

Charles and Susan Baker-Clark Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to assist HTM students with the cost of their study abroad program.

 

The McFadden International Child Welfare Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to assist with preparing competent and committed social workers who will work toward international understanding of the well being of children in the world.

Must be enrolled with full or part-time status as a Master of Social Work, degree-seeking student

 

Devon Smiley Legacy Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to assist students who have experienced the loss of a sibling. Preference given to students pursing a teaching degree, especially those with an emphasis in Special Education or those engaged in University-sponsored study abroad experience

International Relations Scholarships for Study Abroad

A maximum of four grants of $500 each will be awarded to International Relations majors who plan to study abroad in the Spring/Summer, Fall or Academic Year. Grants may be applied to internships abroad as well, as long as the student is registered for IR 490, the internship course. Students can apply these funds to GVSU or external programs. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required to be eligible. Grant decisions will be made by the International Relations Advisory Committee. Financial need will be a factor in the Committee’s decisions. Students are required to submit a report of their activities upon return from study/internship abroad.
