H1N1 Mexican (Swine) Flu

If a global flu pandemic occurs, it will affect everyone in every country. Quarantines and travel restrictions would obviously affect GVSU students studying abroad. The staff of the Padnos International Center is carefully monitoring the situation, and is currently sending students on approved study abroad programs in many corners of the globe, including Mexico. As we do this, we recognize that our students are currently not facing substantial risk of contracting the H1N1 virus, especially when compared to normal risks associated with study abroad.

What PIC is currently doing?

  • Insisting that students register with the US Embassy upon arrival in the destination country, which adds them to the distribution list for important information on safety, security, and health alerts from the US Embassy.
  • Closely monitoring information provided by the Center for Disease Control, World Health Organization.
  • Providing students with emergency contact information

If you have any questions regarding the information above, contact the Padnos International Center at 616-331-3898.
