Important Items to Keep Handy in Transit
Passport, other important documents such as proof of finances (i.e. a recent bank statement or a letter from your bank indicating available funds), airline ticket, money (cash, traveler's checks, etc.), contact phone numbers, a change of clothes, toiletries, and any medications you are bringing with you.

In Transit
Long journeys on an airplane can be uncomfortable. Since the air in the cabin tends to be very dry, passengers are encouraged to carry throat lozenges, gum, mints, or other throat sweets. In addition, you may want to carry a washcloth and travel lotion to freshen up from time to time. It is recommended that you wear comfortable clothing and loose shoes while flying. Limit the amount of alcohol and caffeine intake while flying since this will contribute to dehydration.
