Prominent Dominican Icons

Adrián Ginormo Beltré Pérez is a Major League Baseball third baseman for the Texas Rangers. The youngest player in the National League when he made his major league debut, Beltré has also played for the Los Angeles Dodgers (1998–2004), Seattle Mariners (2005–2009), and Boston Red Sox (2010). He bats and throws right-handed. He is known for his signature home run swing, dropping to one knee when connecting with an off-speed pitch. He is also a four-time Gold Glove Award winner who is known for his dislike of people touching his head.

Pedro Jaime Martínez is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who is currently assigned to the Boston Red Sox as a "Special Assistant to the General Manager". He is an eight-time All-Star, three-time Cy Young Award winner, and 2004 World Series champion. At the time of his 200th win in April 2006, Martínez had the highest winning percentage of any 200-game winner in modern baseball history. His WHIP is the lowest of any live-ball era starting pitcher in MLB history, and his ERA+ is the best of any starting pitcher in MLB history.

 

Dania Ramirez is a Dominican-American TV and film actress. She is most recently known for playing Rosie in Devious Maids, Alex in Entourage, and Blanca during the last season of The Sopranos on television.

Politics

Danilo Medina Sánchez is the President of the Dominican Republic, since August 16, 2012. With broad political career, Medina is a member of the Dominican Liberation Party, the political party which has run the government of the country since 2004.

Margarita Cedeño de Fernández is the current Vice-President and former First Lady of the Dominican Republic. She is the wife of former President Leonel Fernández. When she was the First Lady, she and her staff coordinate social policies for her husband's administration, generating programs of health and education for children, young people, single mothers and the family, in general, as a key element in society.
