2023/24 Cost Breakdown for DeMontfort University

This is the estimated budget for this study abroad program. It serves as an estimated cost of attendance for your study abroad program. Students often pay for study abroad through a combination of financial aid, personal funds, scholarships, grants, and alternative loans. The total amount listed as the Total Program Cost is the maximum amount of aid you can receive from GVSU. This estimated cost of attendance does not reflect the amount of aid you will qualify for, simply the cap on how much could be award to you.

Tuition based on 2023-2024 upper-level in-state tuition rates (12-15 credits). Out-of-state students will pay the out-of-state tuition rate.

Paid to Grand Valley State University Student Accounts by the regular tuition payment deadline.

IS 380 Course fee

$336 

Paid to GVSU. The IS 380 course fee is $28 per credit hour. Participants of this program will register for 12 credits of IS 380.

Chubb Health Insurance

$230

The Chubb International Insurance is required for all participants. The cost is $1.91/day. This estimate is based on an average semester of 120 days, but your actual program dates may be different. This is being used as a general estimate. Once you have your program dates, you can calculate the exact cost.

Housing

Weekly price range from $170 - $200, though the contract length will affect the overall contract fee. The estimate housing cost is calculated based on 120 days a semester (17 weeks) 

Passport/Visa

Passport processing fees: $200. Visa for the UK is only required for students attending for the AY. All other students will enter the UK as a Student Visitor. Those who choose this program for the full academic year can add $500 to this line item for the visa fees.

Flight

Paid to Airline Provider and for travel from London to Leicester via either train or bus. DMU does offer an airport greeting in London for new students provide you arrive on the designated day.

Meals

$1,870

On-site personal expense. Students can prepare their own meals or sign-up for a meal plan, depending on the choice in housing. This estimate is based on $110 per week.

$21,179 (estimate for out-of-state students who do not receive a tuition differential scholarship)

Out-of-state students who receive a GVSU tuition differential scholarship will be able to use that scholarship towards the cost of this program. Exception: International students will not have access to the tuition differential scholarship for use towards the cost of study abroad, however, they may still be eligible for the Study Abroad Grant.

Estimated costs are based on a rate of exchange of 1 GBP = 1.25 USD. Exchange rates fluctuate and may impact the estimates listed above. The rate listed here is the rate as of June 2023.

*Based on in-state, upper-division tuition rates for 12-15 credits. If you complete more than 15 GVSU credits during your semester abroad, tuition charges for the additional credit above 15 will be billed to your GVSU student account after you return and PIC completes the transfer of credit.
