This is the estimated budget for this study abroad program. It serves as an estimated cost of attendance for your study abroad program. Students often pay for study abroad through a combination of financial aid, personal funds, scholarships, grants, and alternative loans. The total amount listed as the Total Program Cost is the maximum amount of aid you can receive from GVSU. This estimated cost of attendance does not reflect the amount of aid you will qualify for, simply the cap on how much could be award to you.

IS 380 Course fee

Chubb Insurance

The Chubb health insurance plan is required for all study abroad participants. The cost is $1.46 per day. This general estimate reflects 120 days. The actual number of days of this program may vary.

Passport processing fees are $200. Hungarian visa is currently about $80 (subject to change). Students may also be required to apply for a residence permit.

Off-campus apartment. ESSCA does not offer residence hall options; however, they will assist students in finding nearby accommodations. Students typically live with other ESSCA students. Rent is typically around 600-800 Euro per month, but there may also be a deposit required. This cost is based on 5 months, although the ESSCA program is only 17 weeks. Note: housing prices are higher right now due to increased housing strain due to the conflict in Ukraine. There may be less expensive options, but this is a range we feel comfortable advising students to prepare for.

Personal Expenses

On-site personal expenses associated with local transportation, cell phone, laundry, and basic provisions. Based on $100 per week for 17 weeks.

This estimate is based on the currency rate of exchange for June 1, 2023 which is a rate of 1 US = 1.10 Euro. The exchange rate does fluctuate which may result in changes to the estimates above

*Based on in-state, upper-division tuition rates for 12-15 credits. If you complete more than 15 GVSU credits during your semester abroad, tuition charges for the additional credit above 15 will be billed to your GVSU student account after you return and PIC completes the transfer of credit.

**The cost of any study abroad program depends to a large extent on the participant’s personal spending habits and lifestyle. Personal travel, entertainment, gifts, souvenirs, and other types of personal spending are costs not reflected in the above estimates.
