The 2011-2012 Senate will have its first meeting on Thursday April 7th at approximately 6:00 pm in Pere Marquette in the Kirkhof Center. This is the nomination meeting for the 2011-2012 Cabinet. Voting for cabinet positions will take place Thursday, April 14th at 4:30 pm.

Grand Valley Student Senate is hosting the 25th annual Presidents’ Ball on Friday, February 4, 2011. In celebration of Grand Valley’s 50th Anniversary, “The Golden Gala” will highlight Grand Valley’s accomplishments over the last fifty years.



The event will be held at the DeVos Place in downtown Grand Rapids, 303 Monroe Avenue NW.  The dinner will start at 6:30 p.m. with the dance from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Limited tickets will be available for pre-sale only at the 2020 Desk in Kirkhof Center. The price for the dinner and dance is $30 and the price for the dance is $10. Busses will run throughout the night with stops at Kirkhof Center, Mackinac and DeVos Place.



Tickets will not be sold at the door. Attendees cannot enter the event without tickets and must have a photo ID.

ALLENDALE, Mich.-- The Grand Valley State University Student Senate is offering busing to students voting in Allendale for the gubernatorial election this Tuesday, November 2.  The bus will start running to the polling location, Allendale Christian Reformed Church, at noon. The bus will run every 30 minutes until 8 P.M. The bus will pick students up outside of the Kirkhof Center and will seat approximately 38 students.

The GVSU Student Senate collaborated with the Office of Student Life and the President’s Office in order to provide this busing for students.

Allendale Township Clerk Candy Kraker, she said that there are approximately 700 to 1,000 GVSU students registered in Ottawa County.

Student Senate Supports U of M Student Body President

ALLENDALE, Mich.-- The Grand Valley State University Student Senate supports Chris Armstrong, the student body president at the University of Michigan who has been criticized and targeted personally by a state assistant attorney general.

The Grand Valley State University Student Senate is committed to inclusion, diversity and tolerance.  In alignment with these values, and on behalf of the student body, the Student Senate wishes to extend sincere support for Mr. Armstrong. 

Grand Valley’s Student Senate does not support acts of intimidation, including cyber bullying.

Candidate applications for the 2010-2011 Student Senate are now available and are due by noon on Monday, March 22.

Applicants must complete an online application found at here.

 Applicants must also submit a petition of 75 student signatures to the Student Senate Office (KC 0008) by Monday, March 22.

Online elections will take place March 25 through April 1 and results will be announced April 5.

The Senate-elect will take their seats at the April 8 meeting.

Student Senate Statement Regarding Off-Campus Incident 

ALLENDALE, MI- Last Wednesday, Ottawa Country Sheriffs Officers in conjunction with the West Michigan Drug Enforcement Team, conducted a search at an apartment in the Campus View Complex.  In the process of executing a search warrant, Derek Copp, a Grand Valley student was shot by a law enforcement officer.

On behalf of the student body, Student Senate would like to wish Derek a full and complete recovery.  The Student Senate will work with administration to do whatever we can to make a smooth transition back to Grand Valley upon his return.   

Even though this incident took place off-campus, Student Senate is greatly concerned with the actions of the law enforcement team.  Student Senate will await a full and complete explanation from the Michigan State Police.  Like all students, we want to know why the West Michigan Drug Enforcement Team entered Derek Copp’s apartment and why a firearm was used.
