Assessment of Student Outcomes

Outcome ELE-A Content Knowledge

Elementary majors have specialized content knowledge for teaching children mathematics.
Objective 1 Elementary majors will have high pass rates on the state-required Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC).

Measure 1

2021 Status
Not Yet Achieved
In 2019-2020 we had 4/5 students (80%) successfully pass the certification test. Subarea scores were (1) 3.6 (2) 3.6 (3) 3.4 (4) 3.2. In 2020-2021 we had 1/1 student successfully pass the certification test with subarea scores (1) 4 (2) 2 (3) 3 (4) 2.

2019 Status
Achieved
92% (11 out of 12) of GVSU students who attempted the mathematics subject area test in 2018-19 passed it within the time frame set by the state of Michigan.

2018 Status
Not Yet Achieved
In 2017-18 (n=19), the subarea pass rates were: (1) 89% (2) 89% (3) 74% (4) 89%.

2017 Status
Not Yet Achieved
In 2016-17 (n=25), the subarea pass rates were: (1) 80% (2) 100% (3) 88% (4) 80%.

2016 Status
Not Yet Achieved
In 2015-16 (n=22), the subarea pass rates were: (1) 80% (2) 100% (3) 73% (4) 77%.

Objective 2 Elementary majors will demonstrate proficiency with combinatorics.

Measure 1

2019 Status
Not Yet Achieved
Seven students (70%) scored at Level 2=Proficient on Indicator 6.1 (Discrete structures). Furthermore, six students (60%) scored at Level 2=Proficient on Indicator 6.2 (Enumeration). The remaining students on each indicator were scored at Level 1=Progressing. We will track these results over time and triangulate with the corresponding sections of the MTTC certification test.

Outcome ELE-B Pedagogical Knowledge

Elementary majors have strong pedagogical knowledge for teaching children mathematics.
Objective 1 Elementary majors will design and implement assessment activities to evaluate children's statistical thinking.
Objective 2 Elementary majors will engage children in productive mathematical discussions.
