Welcome to the Classics Society Homepage!
The Classics Society at GVSU is a student organization for those interested in the history, mythology, culture, literature, philosophy, art, architecture and archaeology of the various cultures that rose up around the Mediterranean long ago. The Classics Society works together with GVSU's Classics Department to provide fun activities throughout the year to give you a break from the rigors of university life. The Classics Department offers courses in Greek and Roman history, art, archaeology and language, as well as Ancient Hebrew and, in conjunction with the History Department, courses in Ancient Near Eastern history.
As a member of the Classics Society, you will have the opportunity to help plan and put on Classics Society events like The Roman Banquet and the Homerathon. You will also be invited to attend bi-weekly meetings which are usually a nice mix of business (planning future events) and pleasure (nerdy classics revisions of popular games such as "Classics Taboo" or "Classics Apples and Oranges").
Homerathon 2007 - A straight through reading of Homer's Iliad, translated by Stan Lombardo
Homerathon 2008 - Dr. Levitan reading from Homer's Odyssey, translated by Stan Lombardo
