Will be meeting during the Fall semester on Fridays at 11:30AM in Mackinac Hall BLL 132.
The Philosophical Society of Grand Valley State University is a student organization that meets weekly to discuss philosophy and issues related to philosophy. The meetings are informal and are usually based on discussion of a selected topic or short reading, or involve a presentation by a student, GVSU faculty member or external guest speaker.Everyone is welcome to attend Philosophical Society meetings. No special background in philosophy is required and it’s OK to just come for part of a meeting if that’s all that your schedule allows.
Again, it is casual and social - a place to discuss and share books, ideas, and polemics. Our goal is to enable students to become more aware of what philosophy is, and to be able to use that knowledge in their various classes and in the community. We attempt to foster community development and a sense of communitas, believing strongly that the unexamined life is not worth living.
Beyond our mission statement above, we also mean to be a tool for students of Philosophy to enhance their resume. Here is a list of a few confrences geared for Undergraduates (most of these confrences convine durring our winter semster):
