What is the Special Interest Council?
Each registered student organization (RSO) is assigned to a Student Organization Council based on its Student Organization Review Board (SORB) classification. All RSOs in the Special Interest category belong to the Special Interest Council. The Council will meet monthly to share information and discuss co-programming opportunities. The Council will also appoint a Funding Board to grant funds to member organizations for campus activities on a program-by-program basis.
The Special Interest Council has been allocated $37,000 for the 2012-2013 fiscal year by the Student Senate. Active members of the Council (sending a representative to each meeting) are eligible to request funds. The process begins by completing a Funding Request Form through Stuey (officers can access the form by clicking on the "$" icon in Stuey.
It is understandable that some Presidents may not be able to attend scheduled Council meetings, however a student representative needs to be in attendance. An organization may send multiple representatives, however a minimum of one student from each organization must attend. Each member organization will receive one vote on Council business. Please note this meeting replaces the “Campus Life Board” meetings of past years and attendance is essential for organizations to receive funding from Student Senate.
Advisors may attend, however, a student must attend to represent the organization.
Agenda Items include (but are not limited to):
-
Attendance and Registration Status of Member Organizations
-
Purpose of the Council and Future Meeting Schedule
-
New Funding Processes for Student Organizations
-
Budget Process and Current Allocations for 2012-2013
-
Application process for those interested in serving on the Special Interest Finance Board
-
Updates and Opportunities
Attendance will be taken and will count as a regular meeting. (This can affect funding later.) All organizations listed as "Special Interest" in Stuey are expected to send a representative.
