Bob Stoll has served the students of Grand Valley State University since 1983. During his time at Grand Valley, he has impacted the lives of students starting with their first experience at orientation all the way through commencement. Bob sees his role as one who helps create an exciting educational environment that encourages student engagement in the campus community. It is through this engagement in various programs and student organizations that students will further their education and learn more about themselves and their future role in society.

Bob has been influential in developing many campus programs and traditions. He has assisted in the planning of a number of building projects on campus. His vision has helped Grand Valley become the place it is today. In addition to his various roles and responsibilities as the Associate Dean of Student Life, Bob coordinates the university commencement ceremonies held at Van Andel Arena, along with the annual fall Convocation ceremony. Bob has been recognized for his work at Grand Valley including the Administrative Professional Achievement Award and the National Associations of Campus Activities Hall of Fame Award.

Bob earned Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees from Northern Michigan University.

LeaAnn Tibbe works with the marketing and promotions of events happening in Student Life. She supervises the Promotions Office along with the 2020 Information Desk. Her responsibilities also include coordinating several large scale traditional campus events such as: Convocation, Family Weekend, Commencement and the Presidents Ball. LeaAnn has been with GVSU since 1994, prior to that she worked in the Meijer corporate office. She has a B.A. in English and a M.Ed. both from GVSU.

Valerie Guzman oversees the Student Organization, Greek Life, and Leadership Development team within the Office of Student Life.  Additionally, she works with the Transitions New Student Orientation Program, leads the staff development efforts in Student Life, oversees the Student Senate Appropriations Committee, and advises Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honorary.  Valerie spent nearly 10 years working with civic engagement in prior positions.  Before joining the Student Life team in 2008, Valerie worked in leadership development and service at the University of Miami (Coral Gables, FL).  Valerie earned her undergraduate degree from Central Michigan University and M.Ed in College Student Affairs Leadership at GVSU.

Melissa Baker-Boosamra

Before joining the GVSU CSLC staff in 2014, Melissa served as the founding Program Director for the Grandville Avenue Arts & Humanities Cook Library Scholars program, a pipeline program for students from first generation immigrant families in Grand Rapids. There, she co-facilitated an innovative university-community partnership, linking the Grandville Avenue community to GVSU Kutsche Office of Local History through the development of a youth-led neighborhood oral history project. Prior to that, Melissa was a GVSU faculty member in BCOIS Liberal Studies Department. There, Melissa developed and implemented a number of innovative academic service learning courses, including an international service learning course which led students to Guatemala in order to explore the relationship between global problems and local solutions. She was recognized for her achievements in the area of academic service learning by Michigan Campus Compact and GVSU in 2010 when she was nominated to serve as a Presidential Service Scholar. Melissa has extensive experience working in Central America and with the Latino community locally as a community organizer and through teaching ESL to migrant farmworkers.  She is a Spanish speaker and is interested in using community based service learning as a tool for developing critical consciousness in students and mutually beneficial relationships between university and community. Outside of work, Melissa finds great joy in spending time with her three children, Chloe, Asa and Ocean. She loves bike riding, swimming, playing basketball, going to the beach, kayaking, dancing, reading and being with friends and family.

Liz joined the Office of Student Life and Community Service Learning Center staff in 2016.  Prior to this role, she worked as an Assistant Director of Annual Giving at GVSU for over 2 years, and was also a Coordinator of New Student Programs at Florida Gulf Coast University for 3 years.  Both of these roles exposed Liz to many facets of higher education, including extensive work with students, programming, and event planning.  Now, Liz is excited to be working with students regarding civic engagement, community organizing, and helping them to find their passions and abilities to impact the world around them.  

Liz is originally from Ohio and received her undergraduate degree from The Ohio State University (Go Bucks!).  Additionally, she spent 2 years in Texas at Texas A&M University working and obtaining her masters degree in Student Affairs Administration.  Outside of work, Liz enjoys spending time with her partner - Matt, as well as working out, cooking, watching college athletics, reading, and continuing to explore all the wonderful things Michigan has to offer.

Santiago currently serves as the Fraternity and Sorority Life Coordinator. Santiago received his B.A. in Political Science from Grand Valley State University in 2006 and his M.A. in Educational Administration and Leadership with Student Affairs Emphasis from the University of the Pacific in 2009. Prior to joining Grand Valley, Santiago worked at Texas A&M University as the Leadership Development Specialist for the Office of Greek Life where he served as the advisor to the Interfraternity Council and the Order of Omega and to develop leadership programs for the fraternity and sorority community. Santiago is a proud member of Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Inc. and a Chartering Brother of the Alpha Gamma Chapter at GVSU.

 

Bobby Nielsen

Bobby joined Student Life as the Video Team Coordinator for the Promotions Office in 2014. He started with Student Life as an undergrad in 2011. During this time, he worked to develop the Video Team to the level it exists today. Outside of the classroom, he was involved with Grand Valley Television, where he was recognized by various groups including the Michigan Association of Broadcasters for his work. 

Bobby graduated from GVSU with a degree in Film/Video Production with additional emphasis focusing on business. He has completed internships in Detroit, MI with a creative commercial production house and in Los Angles, CA with the prestigious Television Academy Internship Program. His areas of interest include producing, broadcast production and cinematography.

As the Student Organization Development Coordinator, Eric Stevens oversees and is a resource to all 400+ registered undergraduate and graduate student organizations on campus.  He also works directly on other major campus programs like Transitions, Campus Life Night, Ignite, etc., and is the campus administrator for OrgSync, the university’s student organization database.  Eric originally joined the Office of Student Life staff in 2011 as a graduate assistant in the College Student Affairs Leadership cohort here on campus where he worked for the Community Service Learning Center.  Prior to getting his M. Ed., Eric received his bachelor’s degree from Spring Arbor University in Youth and Family Ministry.  Eric rejoined the Grand Valley Student Life team in September of 2015 and is ecstatic to be back helping students succeed by achieving their student organization goals!

Krista received her Bachelors degree in Psychology from Grand Valley State University in 1995 and was very involved with student life during that time. She has worked at GVSU for over seventeen years, including WGVU, the Johnson Center for Philanthropy, and General Education before joining the Student Life staff in 2012. She is the Student Life Assistant and provides support to the daily operations for the Office of Student Life, including working closely with student organizations on their events, scheduling, and handling financial and budget related matters.

Kathi joined the Office of Student Life at Grand Valley State University in 2013 after retiring from a successful career in K-12 education.  She worked in Big Rapids and Northview School systems in the areas of work experience, career exploration, and at-risk students.  Her current responsibilities at Grand Valley State University include supervising the student assistants working at the front desk of the office and assisting with a variety of different projects supporting the full-time staff in the office.  Her greatest joy throughout her career has been working directly with students and she feels very fortunate that this role enables her to continue to mentor the students she works with and comes in contact with on a daily basis at Grand Valley.

Outside of work, Kathi enjoys walking, cooking, shopping, travel and spending time with her three granddaughters.

John Bancheri

Coach Bancheri is a passionate leader who began his rowing career in 1973 at the Atlantic City High School and Viking Rowing Club. He serves as a mentor for aspiring coaches and in 2002 was selected as the Dad Vail Coach of the Year. Coach Bancheri holds a bachelor's degree in History and Area Studies from the University of Charleston in 1983 and a master's degree in History from Marietta College in 2004. Coach Bancheri has built successful programs at Wichita State, the University of Charleston, and Marietta College. In 2005, Coach Bancheri was invited to be the Senior Heavyweight Men's Head Coach at the Penn A.C. Rowing Club in Philadelphia. His crews have won five gold medals in the Men's Frosh 8+, two gold medals and a Silver Medal in the Men's JV 8+ and four bronzes in the Men's Varsity 8+ at the Dad Vail. At the first ACRA National Championship in 2008, he led the men to a bronze medal in the Men's Varsity 8+ and a gold medal in the Men's Varsity Lightweight 4+. He led the entire team at Grand Valley to a second place finish at the Dad Vail and the teams point championship at ACRA. In 2009, the Women's Varsity Eight won the Head of the Charles and the Men's Varsity Eight placed third. At the 2010 San Diego Crew Classic, the Men's Varsity Eight were the Cal Cup runners up and the Women's Varsity Eight made it to the Grand Final of the Jessop-Whittier Cup. At the 2012 San Diego Crew Classic, the Men's Varsity Eight Were Men Health Cal Cup Champions. This past year, for the fifth season in a row, GVSU won the ACRA Team Points National Championship. Coach Bancheri is US Rowing level III certified and Power Boating certified. Coach Bancheri lives in Allendale and has twin sons, John Patrick and Salvatore Vincenzo.

OUR MISSION: Grand Valley Rowing challenges its student-athletes to reach the highest level to which they aspire both academically and athletically, while continuing to build and sustain a nationally competitive intercollegiate rowing program.

Alex received his B.A. in Political Science in 2014 from Bowling Green State University. He will be serving as the Graduate Assistant for Fraternity and Sorority Life in the Office of Student life. Alex’s responsibilities will include working with and advising the Interfraternity Council (IFC), the Greek Life Council (GLC), and the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC). Alex is a member of Pi Kappa Phi, which he has been a proud member of since 2011.

Brendan is an alumni of the University of Michigan-Dearborn and received his B.A. in Elementary Education. While in undergrad, he was involved with various service initiatives, student activities, student government, and human rights advocacy groups. Brendan is  pursuing his M.A. in Higher Education with an emphasis in college student affairs leadership. His responsibilities here at GVSU entail overseeing leadership development initiatives such as the I am Grand Valley program, Venderbush Leadership Lecture, Leadership Summit, and Leadership University.

Kara is currently working toward her M. Ed in Higher Education with an emphasis in College Student Affairs Leadership. Kara’s responsibilities in the Office of Student Life include advising the Laker Traditions Team. Her professional interests are multicultural programming, student life, and study abroad. Kara received her B. A. in Communication Studies from Northern Michigan University in 2015 and is enjoying the transition from life in the Upper Peninsula to the fast paced culture of Grand Rapids. Kara is excited to work with the highly energetic students of GVSU.

Josh joined the GVSU Student Life team in 2014 and works with the 400+ student organizations at Grand Valley. Josh earned his bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from Central Michigan University, and worked as a teacher in the Detroit Public Schools prior to joining GVSU’s Office of Student Life. Josh was born in Seoul, South Korea and was raised in Queens, New York. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in College Student Affairs Leadership at GVSU. Josh is extremely passionate about student involvement and leadership development, and looks forward to the relationships he will build with the amazing students of GVSU.

Nicole Wilson is an alumna of Calvin College where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with minors in Mathematics and Integrated Science. Nicole is from a small town in Indiana and has loved living in Grand Rapids the past four years. While in undergrad she was highly involved in new student Orientation, Weekend Programming, and Residence Life. She is now pursuing her M.Ed in College Student Affairs Leadership at GVSU. Nicole loves being a part of the Student Life team and can’t wait to plan and facilitate programs to help GV students become stronger leaders and thoughtful community members.

Megan is an alumni of Central Michigan University where she studied Recreation, Parks, and Leisure Service Administration with a concentration in Therapeutic Recreation. While at CMU, she was involved with various Leadership Institute initiatives, Admissions, Residence Life and the Recreation Department. Megan is pursuing her M.A. in Higher Education with an emphasis in College Student Affairs Leadership. Her responsibilities at GVSU entail advising Spotlight Productions and the Laker Traditions Team, as well as helping with Leadership Summit and other campus programming opportunities and events.

Chelsea received her B.A. in Criminal Justice from Saginaw Valley State University in 2015. She will be serving as one of the Graduate Assistants for Fraternity and Sorority Life located within the Office of Student Life. Chelsea’s responsibilities will include advising the National PanHellenic Conference (NPC), serving as a facilitator of Outreach and Chapter Operations as well as developing Leadership Programming for the Fraternity and Sorority Life community. Chelsea has been an active and enthusiastic member of Alpha Sigma Alpha since 2012.
