GR101: Get To Know Your City

Now that school has started back up, nearly 50,000 students are roaming the different campuses of universities across the greater Grand Rapids area. Whether you are new to the area or have been around for a while, we want to give you a warm welcome before the autumn chill hits, so we’re co-hosting GR101 College Week to help you feel at home in West Michigan!

Not far from the Allendale campus is the beautiful city of Grand Rapids. This city has so much to offer and we want to give you a personal tour! We’ve teamed up with the mayor of Grand Rapids and nine different universities to help you and your friends get to know the city this week.

Your student ID will get you discounts at some amazing restaurants, coffee shops, and other cultural hubs like the Grand Rapids Art Museum. Here are four big events you don’t want to miss:

  • Live Band Swing Dancing - September 12, 7 p.m., Rosa Parks Circle

    • Dance the night away! All skill levels are welcome, so even if you have two left feet, come out, learn some moves and enjoy live music.

  • Relax at Rosa - September 14, 12 p.m., Rosa Parks Circle

    • Have some time between afternoon classes downtown? Head on over to Rosa Parks Circle for live music and some of Grand Rapids’ finest food trucks!

  • Movie Night - September 14, 8 p.m., GRCC Student Plaza

    • Join college students from all over West Michigan to watch a free screening of “Wonder Woman.” Popcorn included. All you need is your student ID!

  • Connect GR Networking Event - September 15, 2 - 4 p.m., Grand Rapids Public Library

    • “Connect GR”  is a local business networking event and a great opportunity for students to meet different West Michigan employers from several organizations such as Spectrum Health, New Holland Brewing Co., Steelcase, and many more!

Want to put some roots down in the time you’re on the west side or simply get the most out of the discounts offered by local businesses? Hop on the 50 and get to know your city this week! Welcome to Grand Rapids!
