  • Master's students in Applied Statistics, Biostatistics, Data Science & Analytics

Madeline Siehling Statistics Pathway Scholarship

$3500 scholarship

  • For an undergrad stats major with demonstrated financial need

Statistics Book Scholarship

Deadline: March 1, 2024

At least four $200 scholarships will be available.  

  • Two will be available for students majoring in statistics
  • One will be available to students with a minor in mathematical statistics, applied statistics or data science
  • One will be available to students in the master's degree programs for Applied Statistics, Biostatistics, or Data Science and Analytics

Each of the scholarships will be given to honor the student for outstanding performance and to encourage the student to continue in statistics at that level of excellence.

Eligibility Requirements:
To be eligible to apply for the Statistics Book Scholarship, the student must satisfy all of the following:

  • the student has declared a major, minor, or master's degree in one of the fields listed above;
  • the student has completed at least 45 credit hours by the time of application (9 credit hours for master's degree students);
  • the student has completed at least 6 credit hours in courses at GVSU with an STA (statistics) designation (must be at the graduate level for graduate student applicants);
  • the student is currently enrolled at GVSU at the time of application including at least one statistics course;
  • the student has an overall GPA of 3.0 or better.

The above items will be considered in the evaluation of candidates for a scholarship. In addition, the faculty will consider the candidate’s performance in statistics courses at GVSU and any additional activities or collaborative research/projects that the candidate has conducted with a statistics faculty member.

Statistics Tuition Scholarship

Deadline: March 1, 2024

Scholarships of at least $500 will be available. Each scholarship will be given to a statistics major to honor the student for outstanding performance and to encourage that student to continue in statistics at that level of excellence.

**These scholarships are made possible by the generous support of contributors to the Statistics Endowment Fund.***

Eligibility Requirements: To be eligible to apply for the Statistics Tuition Scholarship, the student must satisfy all of the following:

  • Must be a full-time student.
  • Declaration of "stat" major: the student has declared a undergraduate major in statistics or graduate major in applied statistics, biostatistics, or data science and analytics;
  • Credit hours completed by the time of application:
    • undergraduate applicants: at least 45 credit hours
    • graduate applicants: at least 9 credit hours
  • Credits with STA designation completed by the student at GVSU has completed by the time of application:
    • undergraduate applicants: at least 9 STA credit hours
    • graduate applicants: at least 6 STA credit hours
  • Continuing to take STA courses: applicants are expected to take at least one course with an STA designation:
    • during Fall 2023 semester
    • during Winter 2024 semester (this requirement is waived for students graduating in December 2023)
  • the student has an overall GPA of 3.2 or better.

In the evaluation of candidates for a scholarship, the above items will be considered. In addition, the faculty will consider the candidate's performance in statistics courses at GVSU and any additional activities or collaborative research/projects that the candidates has conducted with a statistics faculty member.

The recipient(s) will be announced by the end of the winter semester the application is due. The scholarships will be given the following fall semester.

Madeline Siehling Statistics Pathway Scholarship

Deadline: March 1, 2024

A scholarship for $3500 is available.  The purpose of this scholarship is to help widen the pathway to graduation for students from middle income families who do not qualify for federal need-based aid and are ineligible for many of the government programs intended to help defray the cost of tuition and fees. Support from the Grand Valley community will impact the University’s highest priority and help students from middle income families to avoid indebtedness, archive their goals, and become fully engaged citizens.

  • Recipients must be accepted or currently enrolled at GVSU
  • Must be undergraduate juniors or senior student enrolled full-time (12 credit hours or more)
  • Must be a Statistics major
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.3

Financial need will be given preference and will be demonstrated by Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Renewal Criteria: This scholarship may be renewed with reapplication provided the recipient(s) continues to meet the qualifications listed above This scholarship may be awarded to an individual for a maximum of 4 semesters.
