- sophomore or junior (anticipated graduation date April 2018-December 2019)
- Intend to pursue a research career in Biology, Chemistry, Computer and Information Sciences, Engineering, Geosciences, Life Sciences, Materials Research, Mathematical Sciences, Physics and Astronomy or Psychology.

Hollings Scholarship

- Sophomore-standing (or at least 2 years left of degree)
- Minimum 3.0 GPA
- U.S. citizen
- STEM disciplines, including (but not limited to): oceanic, environmental, biological, and atmospheric sciences, mathematics, engineering, remote sensing technology, physical and social sciences (geography, physics, hydrology, geomatics, or teacher education) that support NOAA's programs and mission.
