School of Social Work
MSW / MPA Combination
General Information
The GVSU College of Community and Public Service(CCPS), through its Schools of Social Work(SSW) and Public and Nonprofit Administration(SPNA), offer prospective students the option to receive both graduate degrees offered by these units (MSW and MPA).
This entails taking coursework simultaneously in the two disciplines in order to be well prepared to seek middle- and upper-level management positions in either public or private human service organizations.
This oportunity is designed for those who wish to combine the knowledge, skills and values of the social work profession with the advanced administrative and technical expertise developed through the study of public administration to become leaders in their organizations and their communities.
Students who have already graduated with an MSW or MPA degree are not eligible for this option, but may pursue an additional second degree in the other discipline (see catalog for second degree requirements).
Students who have advanced beyond two semesters in one program before deciding on this option may not be able to finish the program requirements in a timely manner and should immediately seek the advice of advisors in both the School of Social Work and the School of Public and Nonprofit Administration before embarking upon this program.
