SW 631/351 Cross Cultural Service Learning with Native Americans


Saginaw Chippewa
In Mt. Pleasant, Michigan


What it is:
A 3 credit course exploring social work issues with Native American members of Saginaw Chippewa tribe in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan using service learning and experiential teaching methods.
Counts as social work elective. (Group B or D for MSW students)

When it is:
Spring/Summer Semester of 2009
Monday April 27 through May 8, 2009
2 Preparatory sessions and one follow up session are required for credit.

Where it is:
Social Service Agencies n Mt. Pleasant, MI.

Who is it for?
A selective group of 10 - 15 GVSU BSW Candidates and/or MSW Students in Good Academic standing.

You will need to:

  • Apply and be admitted
  • Pay for 3 credits tuition
  • Provide your own transportation, money for lodging, food, and occasional admission costs. (Total to be announced.)
