Sports Leadership Major, Business Minor, 2012 Graduate
My time spent at Grand Valley State University ultimately took me down the path that I am on today. Prior to graduating in 2012, I accepted a full time position with the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the United States Hockey League. In total, I spent three years with the Lumberjacks organization working in various roles from Ticket Sales & Marketing to Game Day Operations and even wearing the mascot outfit! In 2013, I was promoted to Sales Director of the L.C Walker Arena where I was responsible for generating revenue through various forms of arena rentals, concerts, hockey tournaments and season ticket sales.
However, a new opportunity presented itself that I couldn't resist! In January of 2014, I accepted my current position with the Arizona Diamondbacks as a New Season Ticket Holder Advisor. My role is to help educate new fans on their benefits and ensure they understand how to utilize all of the programs that we have at their disposal. Professionally, I have learned many things that will make me a successful leader in this industry and I attribute the things that I have learned to the culture that we have in place. Our culture is built around a saying we use everyday, F.A.W.T.S.Y.- Find A Way To Say Yes. We also have a Circle of Success which promotes Culture, Financial Efficiency, Fan Experience, Performance and Community.
If there are two things that I took away from my time spent at GVSU, it was my knack of building relationships and learning what it takes to become a leader. GVSU prepared me for the rigors of the Sport Management industry, but it was the time I spent in the classroom, meeting new friends, networking and joining the Sports Leadership Club that truly taught me about becoming a leader.
