Federal Marriage Amendment: One Man One Woman?

Laura Schaberg

A United States Constitutional Amendment is proposed to limit marriage by definition to a union of one man one woman. Gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender activists began pursuing incremental legalization for same-sex marriage in 1970, yet not until the Massachusetts Supreme Court ruling in November of 2003 did the issues become a concern for main street USA. The battle lines are drawn, the political maneuvering has begun. No one predicted the 2004 election outcomes. What environment fueled the outcry?
