To participate in these programs, students must submit an application through GVSU's Padnos International Center located in Room 105 Student Services Building. Phone (616) 331-3898 or E-mail oia@gvsu.edu. The deadline for application to summer programs is in early January. The following programs should be of particular interest to SPNA students. SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA
Visit faculty.gvsu.edu/jelierr/australia.html Public Affairs and Planning in Sydney, Australia is a four and one half week summer program providing opportunities for both undergraduate (credited as PA 372 and PA380) and graduate students to study international comparative administration and the growth and development of Australia. Olympic city, Sydney, Australia, with a population of almost 5 million, and covering almost 700 square miles, is a remarkably easy city to move around in. Excellent train, bus and ferry service cover all points of the greater metropolitan area. Sydney enjoys a temperate climate and has more than 340 sunny days a year. Sydney's cultural and natural sites are beyond compare. The Royal Botanic Gardens, Taronga Park Zoo, the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge, The Rocks (often described as "Sydney's Outdoor Museum"), art galleries, numerous museums, historical structures, and vibrant neighborhoods all lay claim to the fine cultural fare in Sydney. Some claim that the harbour is Sydney, and on a warm day, with a clear blue sky, there is no better place on earth! For further information see faculty.gvsu.edu/jelierr/australia.html or contact Richard Jelier at Jelierr@gvsu.edu. KRAKOW, POLAND
SPNA students may get PA credit (PA 372: International and Comparative Administration) for participation in GVSU's study abroad program at Poland's Krakow University of Economics. The city of Krakow is the educational and cultural center of Poland, with a university system founded in the 14th century. Students comprise 10% of the population of Krakow, making it a lively and energetic city filled with exciting clubs and cultural events. It has an abundance of museums, theaters, concerts, and festivals. One of the few major European cities that escaped total devastation during World War II, many of Krakow's original medieval structures still stand. GVSU and the Krakow University of Economics have mutually benefited from international cooperation through an exchange since 1975. Since then, approximately 270 GVSU students, representing a wide variety of majors, have studied either for a short-term summer program of Polish culture and language, or for a semester length program during the academic year. Interested students are encouraged to contact Dan Balfour at balfourd@gvsu.edu for more information. |
