  • Margo Greenlaw
    Margo Greenlaw recently relocated to GVSU from Temple University, where she taught a variety of courses in TV/video production, scriptwriting, and theory.  She is also a former board member of the Iowa City International Documentary Film Festival and former co-director of Iowa City Microcinema. Professor Greenlaw's films and videos blend documentary with experimental and narrative forms and have screened at festivals throughout North America and the UK.  Her most recent documentary, Face Down on a Hill, creates a poetic portrait of a unique forensic anthropological facility commonly known as the "Body Farm" and further encourages the viewer to consider her own reactions to mortality.  (B.A., French and Cinema Studies, University of Tennessee; M.F.A., Film & Video Production, The University of Iowa).  greenlam@gvsu.edu
  • Deanna Morse, Professor
    Deanna Morse is a film artist specializing in animation. Her films have screened internationally, are in permanent collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and air on "Sesame Street". She has served on many film festival selection committees and juries including the Hiroshima International Animation Festival and SIGGRAPH Computer Graphics Art & Design Show. Professor Morse recently produced a DVD collection of her short animations and films entitled, "Move * Click * Move"  which is available for sale in the University Bookstore, or on her website.  Proceeds from the sale of the DVD's are donated to the Film & Video Endowed Scholarship Fund.  (B.S.   • John Harper Philbin, Associate Professor
    Prof. Philbin is in charge of the SOC''s Summer Film Project as well as teaching courses in the Film/Video program. He is a filmmaker with 20 years of professional experience in film and video production. Before coming to Grand Valley, he worked as a director, producer, writer, camera operator and editor in Los Angeles, New York and Chicago.   • Jennifer Proctor, Visiting Professor
    Jennifer Proctor is a film/videomaker and videoblogger whose interests include experimental documentary, handmade film, home movies, interactive online video, community-building, and the environment.  Her work has screened around the world, including festivals such as Full Frame, Madcat, Dallas Video Festival, Portland Documentary and Experimental, EXP 24, and the Flicker circuit.  She is also a former director of the Cinematexas Short Film Festival, Austin Cinemaker Co-op, and Iowa City Microcinema.  She teaches courses in film history/theory, scriptwriting, and video production.  (B.A., B.S., University of Texas at Austin; M.A., M.F.A., University of Iowa)  proctoje@gvsu.edu  Website:  jenniferproctor.com
  • Kim Roberts, Associate Professor
    Prof. Roberts is a video artist whose primary work takes the form of installation and experimental video.  Through intricate relationships between video and objects, her installations raise questions and evoke complex feelings regarding social institutions and cultural privilege.  Her current work, Focus on the Family is an interactive video installation dealing with dehumanizing hate crimes inflicted on citizens because of sexual orientation.  The exhibit will open on September 25 at Open Concept Gallery in Grand Rapids, MI (www.openconceptgallery.org).  She teaches courses in video production, new media, and film and video art.  (B.F.A., Kendall College of Art & Design; M.F.A.   • Barbara Roos, Associate Professor and Associate Director of the School of Communications
    Prof. Roos founded the GVSU Film /Video program. She came to academia from a career in public broadcasting.  Her current focus is global communications, and she is engaged in research on oral communication among a Bedouin community.  Her sabbatical project, fall 2006, examines the relationship of liberal to career education.   • Z. Eric Yang
    Z. Eric Yang is a narrative filmmaker whose films have been showcased in various film festivals across the country as well as in his native China. Most recently, he received a Director's Guild of America Student Award and a Student Academy Award for his thesis film at Florida State University Film School, where he earned his MFA. Before he came to GVSU, Eric taught film and television at the University of Memphis, where he had started his film study under the instructions of such esteemed filmmakers as Craig Brewer (Hustle and Flow, Black Snake Moan) and Emmy Award winners Steven J. Ross and David Appleby.
