				<title>Sociology Graduate Ryan Ames Working on 5 Year Federal Grant</title>

	Ryan graduated from GVSU in the spring of &#39;08 with a B.S. in Sociology (having focused on Urban Sociology and social research methods). He then went on to University of Illinois at Chicago and received a Masters in Urban Planning and Policy (with a specialization in Community Development) in the spring of &#39;10. In May, 2011 he accepted a position as Research Coordinator at the Community Research Institute (Johnson Center for Philanthropy) and is currently working with a 5 year federal grant (System of Care) to improve the mental health services across Kent County for youth with serious emotional disturbances.</p><br />

	<font face="Times New Roman,serif" size="3"><span style="font-size:12pt;">Grand Valley student Xinyi Ou is <a href="https://mail.exchange.gvsu.edu/owa/redir.aspx?C=d63b61bec32a477b85b61c80b079cdf6&amp;URL=http%3a%2f%2fwww.pointfoundation.org%2fpage.aspx%3fpid%3d955" target="_blank">one of 29 students</a> in the U.S. to receive a scholarship from Point Foundation, an organization that provides financial support and leadership training to students who are marginalized due to sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.<br /><br />
	<br /><br />
	Ou, a double major in history and sociology, joins fellow scholar students from universities across the country, such as Harvard, Columbia, Stanford and Dartmouth. She was one of more than 2,000 students who submitted an applicantion to become a Point Foundation Scholar. </span></font></div><br />
