Welcome to the SMART Center!

The SMART Center provides on-going academic and career advising, for all students interested in Science and Mathematics, within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Our services include, but are not limited to the following:

  • An initial starting place for students seeking academic advisement in Science and Math.
  • Pre-professional advising for students seeking entrance into medical, dental, optometry, chiropractic, podiatry, veterinary, and pharmacy schools (including application information and mock interviews).
  • Teacher certification
  • Career exploration information and referrals
  • Dissemination of all GVSU academic policies and procedures

  • General Education and Basic Skills advising
  • Outreach to students on academic probation and in jeopardy of dismissal
  • Referrals to appropriate faculty for information on elective course selection, career opportunities and graduate schools
  • A "where to go" place for all types of information, forms and procedures

In addition to our advising services, two academic support services are managed out of this office:

Math and Science Student Support, MS3, provides a variety of support services to students outside of class including tutoring and study groups.

The Structured Learning Assistance program, SLA, enhances learning opportunities by providing additional course contact hours  in a few designated entry level courses within science and mathematics.
