About Our Facility

The Cook-DeVos Center for Health Sciences (CHS) is a 217,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art facility for students, health professionals and researchers to collaborate, learn, and demonstrate skills.

Assessment Labs

Equipment: Male and Female Laerdal Total Care Dolls, and Adult Scales Standing.

Use: Provides space for teaching, skills training, and assessment.

Hospital Simulation

Equipment: Infant Incubators; Infant Viewing Carts; Graesby 3000 IV Pumps (MERC); Baxter FloGard6201; IVAC Infusion Pump; IV Poles Rolling; Kangaroo Feeding Pump; Welch Allyn Rolling Halogen Exam Lights; Adult Scales Standing; Hoyer Lift w/ Sling; Bak-Pak Transfer Board (MERC) (315A); ICU Bed (315B); Laerdal SimBaby (315D); Birthing Bed (315D); and Commode Seat (315E).

Use: Room B provides a space for simulation scenarios in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), while rooms C through G provide space for simulation scenarios in patient rooms.

 
The model patient suite resembles the exam rooms of a traditional family practice physician.   This room resembles an emergency room.
Model Patient Suite

Equipment: Exam Tables and wall diagnostic sets.

Use: Provides space for teaching, skills training, and assessment.

   Simulation Suite

Equipment: HPS, ECS, patient monitors, crash carts, simulator/room gasses, and LCD projector.

Use: Simulations, debriefing, and scenario development.

 
This room is used to study motion.   This vast room features numerous work stations that resemble a real health care facility.
Gait Analysis Lab
Equipment: Vicon Motion Analysis System, Neurocom Smart Equitest System, and Biodex Multi-Joint System.

Use: Equipment in the floor and cameras mounted on ceiling are used to create 3-D images of a person’s movement, balance, and strength.

   Skills Lab
Equipment: Musculoskeletal Models, Positioning tables, and Diagnostic Sets.

Use:  Provides a space for teaching Physical therapy, Physicians Assistant, and Nursing programs.
This area of the model living suite looks like a typical living room leading into a kitchen.
   The model living suite also contains a bedroom and bathroom.
Model Living Suite

Equipment: Multiple patient transfer areas and adaptive equipment.

Use: Creates a simulated environment for students to learn how to teach someone to perform daily activities while living with an injury.
 
This high-tech room resembles a hospital operation room.   This computer room overlooks a simulation room and records simulations.
Radiation Therapy

Equipment: X-ray machines, dark room, sonography machines, Ximatron simulator, and Oncology Treatment Planning Systems.

Use: Space is for the Radiologic and Imaging Sciences, specialties that are self-standing professions using either ionizing, sound, or radio radiations to produce diagnostic images and guide invasive and non-invasive procedures of the body.
 
  
This room houses numerous workstations with such equipment as microscopes and incubators.   This room resembles more of a traditional classroom, but with more technology and research equipment available.
Microbiology and Clinical Lab Science

Equipment: Microscopes, incubators, fume hoods, Celldyn 3200, Atac 8000, and centrifuges.

Use: The space is used to teach complex analyses and perform tests in order to develop data on the blood, tissues, and fluids of the human body which play an important role in the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of many diseases.
