Camp Counselor - Job Description

Purpose of Position: to serve as both an adult responsible for campers as a part of Grand Valley Shakespeare Festival's Will Power Summer Camp and as support staff for camp administration. Help with the implementation of program activities and work to achieve camp learning objectives.

  • Give children an understanding of Shakespeare's work and influence
  • Help children learn the process of 'play' with theatre concepts
  • Maintain health and safety standards
  • Run a well-organized camp program

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Must be a college student with related experience in the education or theatre field
  • If hired, attend the training session prior to camp. This training session is mandatory.
  • CPR/ First Aid training is preferred but not required.
  • Exhibit characteristics of: creativity, responsibility, patience, dependability, maturity, self-starter, positive attitude and a team player.
  • You must pass a background check. 

Duties:

  • Assume responsibility of safety of campers (be familiar with risk management plans) and report all injury incidences to camp director
  • Follow camp objectives, rules, policies, and guidelines
  • Assist with all camp activities
  • Serve as a positive role model for campers
  • Be punctual and organized
  • Participate enthusiastically
  • Follow Directions
  • Show a genuine interest in campers

Camp Sessions:

Each day has a morning and afternoon session. You can apply to be a counselor for the whole day or just half the day. You must be available for the entire camp week. You can apply to work both sessions or only one session. The goal is to be consistent for our campers. The 2017 Camp Week runs from June 26-30

  • Morning Session 9am-12:00pm
  • Afternoon Session 1pm-4pm

You will be asked to arrive at least 1/2 hour early and stay 1/2 after each session is over.
