We asked Megan a few questions about why she volunteers and some of her past experiences, here's what she had to say:

Q: What is some of the volunteer work you've done?

A: Since my time at Grand Valley began, I have volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, God's Kitchen, the Grand Rapids Children's museum, the Kentwood Jaycees, and C-Snip. Upon joining my sorority, Alpha Sigma Tau, I have also taken part in raising money for the American Cancer Society, the American Diabetes Association, and Pine Mountain Settlement School.  During the summer, I volunteer at a ventilator-dependent children’s camp in Mayville, MI. Q: What's been your favorite place to volunteer so far?

A: I really enjoy volunteering at Trail's Edge camp for Ventilator-Dependent Children.  I have spent two summers there and enjoy being around all the kids as well as expanding my medical care knowledge.

Q: How did you start volunteering?

A: Volunteering is something I have done since I was very young.  Growing up, I would volunteer at local soup kitchens and take part in service programs through my church.

Q: Why do you volunteer?

A: By donating your time or money you are not only helping those in need, but you also grow as a person and gain insight as to how fortunate you are.  It's fun to come together with friends, family, or other members of the community and make a difference, even if it's a small one.

Q: What has been your most rewarding volunteer experience so far?

A: I believe all of my volunteer experiences have been rewarding, but my time spent with Habitat for Humanity has been exceptional.  Working with the homeowners directly was a very personal experience and I was moved by their gratitude and love.

Q: What do you do when you are not volunteering?

A: When I am not volunteering, I am either attending classes, working at a nursing and rehabilitation center in East Grand Rapids, or hanging out with my friends.
