Volunteer Recognition Overview

GVSU student volunteers have the opportunity to nominate others, apply and be recognized at the university, state, and national levels.

CSLC Awards
(presented at the Office of Student Life's annual Recognition Awards)

The CSLC highlights registered student organizations and service leaders for outstanding service and philanthropy activities.
     CSLC Spirit of Service Award – Highest Total Hours Reported

     CSLC Spirit of Service Award - Most Hours Reported Per Member
     CSLC Spirit of Philanthropy Award – Most Philanthropic Dollars Raised
     CSLC Spirit of Philanthropy Award - Most Philanthropic Dollars Raised Per Member

     CSLC Spirit of Service Award - Most Hours Reported By an Individual
Eligibility/Requirements: Students must report service hours and philanthropy efforts via the Service Tracker.

Registered Student Organization (RSO) Recognition Awards
The following awards are given by the Student Organization Center, along with a vareity of other awards specifically for student organizations

     Campus/Community Impact

Requirements: Must be a Registered Student Organization on Stuey
Application Process: Online Application
Applications Due: Annually in mid-March

I am Grand Valley Campaign
Eligibility/Requirements: Any Grand Valley student leader who displays and utilizes strong leadership skills to contribute to the campus and beyond.
Nomination Process: To nominate someone, fill out the form on the website and include a short paragraph (350 characters or less) on how that nominee exhibits leadership skills
Nominations Due: December 9th, 2011

Michigan Volunteer Recognition Programs

Michigan Campus Compact (MCC) Outstanding Student Service Awards (OSSA)
2011- 2012 Nomination/ Application Process:
Michigan Campus Compact is delighted to be celebrating sixteen years of Outstanding Student Service Awards (OSSA). OSSAs honor those students who have made a true commitment to service. Both processes are very easy to complete!

  • Commitment to Service: recognizing two students from each MCC member campus who have been particularly devoted to service.  *There is an internal GVSU process to select GVSU’s 2 nominees.  To nominate a student by January 13, visit: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/TSBH7GC
  • Heart and Soul: recognizing students for their community efforts. An unlimited number of GV students can be nominated by faculty, staff or other students.  This nomination form requires basic contact information and 2 sentences about why the student is being nominated. Due to MCC by 5pm on January 18 at http://micampuscompact.org/studentawards.aspx

Nominated students will be contacted after nominations have closed to submit the application materials such as several essay questions and resume.  Please refer to the instructions provided by MCC (which will be available once the nomination process has closed).

Governor’s Service Awards
Eligibility/Requirements: Many different awards available; see GSA website for complete list and description
Nomination Process: To nominate someone, download the form from the GSA website; nominees will have to complete a background check

National Volunteer Recognition Programs

Presidential Service Awards Program
Eligibility/Requirements: For students: Bronze level= 100-174 hours of service, silver level= 175-249 hours, gold level= 250+ hours
Application Process: Go to the website, click “Track Your Hours”, then create your record of service
Applications Due: No application required

Platinum Torch National Service Honorary
Eligibility/Requirements: Registered student
Application Process: To become a member, fill out the application on the website. Members can track service hours completed and are eligible for various service level awards.
