This invasive weed grows in many of our County Parks and threatens the native species and natural habitats. Volunteer individuals or groups are needed to help pull and bag this weed! Grand Rapids Symphony ~ D&W Fresh Market Picnic Pops Concert Series
July 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25, 31 & August 1, 4:15pm-10pm

Looking for a unique summer experience? Volunteer at the Grand Rapids Symphonys D&W Fresh Market Picnic Pops concerts held at Cannonsburg Ski Area. You'll meet and work with a great group of volunteers while helping guests enjoy fun musical nights of Classics, The Beatles, Summertime Pop and The Eagles. Most of the current volunteer openings are in these areas: Family Fun (work with children/families on trying out instruments, face painting, crafts); Flag Ambassadors (greeting and assisting guests parking in the handicapped parking lot by flagging down a cart driver); and on the Pedestrian Walkway (guiding and directing guests parking in the outer lots safely and smoothly along the designated walk ways to the gate). These are important and fun areas to work. You'll have the chance to work with other volunteers and guests. All volunteers receive a complimentary dinner and are able to enjoy the concert when they have finished their assignment. Eastown Community Association ~ Feeding America Truck

Gilda's Club Grand Rapids ~ 12th Annual World's Largest Dog Wash
August 3, 9am-3pm

Chemistry DepartmentBiennial Conference on Chemical Education
August 3-7, 8am-9pm

The Biennial Conference on Chemical Education is the largest gathering of chemical educators in the world. The educational focus of the 2014 BCCE is Empowering Chemical Educators for a Greener Tomorrow. The conference will highlight efforts in bringing sustainable chemistry to the classroom via special symposia and workshops. Volunteer for the largest conference hosted at GVSU! A variety of volunteer duties as well as days and times are available. Blandford Nature Center ~ Eco-Stewardship Invasive Species Control
August 9, 9:30am-12:30pm
Join BNC's Volunteer Coordinator, Jessie, for an introduction in the main visitor center auditorium from 9:30-10am. She will start with a lesson on invasive non-native shrub and tree identification. Volunteers will learn to identify common invasive plants like buckthorn, privet and honeysuckle and then you will head out into the forest to practice your identification skills. Finally, you'll cut and treat those unwanted invaders improving habitat for native species. Please come prepared to work off the trail with warm clothes and sturdy shoes that could get dirty. Everyone is welcome to join for an hour or the full day. Housing & Residence Life ~ Helping Hands
August 18-20, 8am-4pm (Shifts Vary)

For first year students, research indicates that the first six weeks at college are critical to retention and student satisfaction; the first few days being the most important. To make the beginning of the fall semester a positive and inclusive experience for GVSU students, a strong faculty/staff presence during housing move-in is necessary. Volunteers are need to assist students with the following during move-in week: directing traffic, carrying supplies from cars to student rooms, assisting new students with check-in, and welcoming students and their families to campus. Eastown Community Association ~ Streetfair

Streetfair celebrates art, music, food, and the Eastown community. This year's event will be on September 13 from 9 a.m.-8 p.m on Wealthy St. between Lake Dr. and Atlas. UICA ~ OddBall

UICA's OddBall is back for September 2014! This UICA signature event will showcase Collaboration, UICAs ArtPrize 2014 exhibition. UICA is excited for this year's event theme, Lux, which will feature a decadent and mysterious atmosphere. Volunteers are needed for a variety of different roles, including greeting guests, ID check, and gallery monitors. Alliance for the Great Lakes ~ September Adopt-A-Beach(TM)

Join the thousands of people caring for our Great Lakes during the Alliances September Adopt-a-Beach Event, part of the International Coastal Cleanup. Volunteers who participate in the event not only remove debris, they also record their findings. West Michigan Environmental Action Council ~ 11th Annual Mayors' Grand River Cleanup
September 20, 9am-10pm

Over the past decade, thousands of volunteers have come together to pick up more than 120,000 pounds of refuse from the banks of the Grand River. The event will again feature an after party sponsored by Founders Brewing Company with local craft beer and live music. Participants receive free refreshments, lunch, and T-shirt.Volunteers duties include picking up garbage along side the Grand River. ArtPrize
September 24-October 12

Every year ArtPrize volunteers come together in the early fall to help put on one of the world's largest art competitions. Whether you enjoy working behind the scenes or in the public eye, its people like you who breathe life into ArtPrize and make it the place to be every fall. ArtPrize offers a variety of volunteer opportunities to fit the needs and wants of our amazing volunteers! These opportunities include HUB Hospitality, Voter Registration, Wayfinding, ArtPrize Events, Leadership Positions, and a number of other positions. Volunteers are the ambassadors and tour guides of ArtPrize, providing visitors with assistance, answering questions, handing out maps, and providing hospitality in ArtPrize spaces. Want to volunteer with your friends, family, or coworkers? No Problem! We encourage group volunteering during ArtPrize; its a fun way to see art, extend hospitality to visitors, and spend time with your friends, family, and co-workers. UICA ~ ArtPrize

This year marks the 5th anniversary of ArtPrize, and UICA is more excited than ever! This year's dates are September 24th-October 12th, and UICA is looking for a large group of volunteers to help them create a smooth and fun guest experience. There are many shifts to choose from as well as some sweet membership incentives for serving multiple shifts. Volunteer duties include gallery monitoring, greeting, and voter registration.
