Burton Elementary School ~ Host a Game Drive!
March - May 1

Burton Elementary School is looking for board games and card decks to play with during indoor recess! Have games around the house that you outgrew years ago? Want to purchase a game for local students? Help kids have fun on the days the weather does not allow them to play outside! Hosts will manage this opportunity by: 1) Promoting the game drive, 2) Collecting games and card decks, and 3) Communicating with volunteer coordinator, Katelyn Kovalik. West Michigan Environmental Action Council ~ 2104 Grand River GreenUp
April 19, 9am-1pm

Join WMEAC and Grand Haven Area Jaycees on Saturday, April 19th for the 4th Annual Grand River GreenUp. Register to help with hundreds of other volunteers to pick up thousands of pounds of refuse from the watershed. The GreenUp is one of the biggest Earth Day events on the lakeshore! Anyone who can safely and responsibly navigate riverbank terrain is welcome to participate. Friends, families, schools, scouts, coworkers, clubs, and organizations can volunteer together! West Michigan Environmental Action Council ~ Earth Day Brewery Challenge
April 22, 3pm-10pm

Harmony Brewery and Brewery Vivant will be facing off in an Earth Challenge of epic proportions! Visit both Harmony and Brewery Vivant to submit your Earth Day pledge through EarthDay.org/takeaction. Volunteer to Read with The Salvation Army Friday, April 25, 2014 Shift 1: 8:00am to 11:15am or Shift 2: 12:00pm to 2:15pm or All Day: 8:00am to 2:15pm. Join The Salvation Army Action Group of young professionals for their third annual Army of Readers event and celebrate reading in area schools. Kent County Parks ~ The Garlic Mustard Challenge!

Rivertown Races- Grandville Marathon : The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

This volunteer opportunity is through The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Team in Training. We will be working to help cheer on participants in the River Races Marathon.  Volunteers will be present at the Team in Training aid station and will hand out snacks, water, and encouragement! West Michigan Refugee Education and Cultural Center ~ Converging Paths Conference
April 28, 7:30am-5pm

The West Michigan Refugee Education and Cultural Center is hosting the inaugural Converging Paths conference, an event hosting 250 educators and other staff working with refugee students in different capacities. The event will feature workshops in each of four pertinent pillars of the refugee student experience: 1) In the Classroom 2) in the Home 3) In the Community and 4) Cultural Background. The workshops will be delivered by experts on the various topics. They are looking for volunteers to help for several tasks on the day. Here are a few of the needs. Kent County Prevention Coalition ~ 2014 KCPC Above the Influence-Kent County Youth Summit

The Above the Influence-Kent County Youth Summit is a Generation Y and Z-driven conference powered by the Kent County Prevention Coalition. Birthed out of a vision to empower community youth, The Summit is designed to equip middle and high school youth to think critically about personal choices and future ambitions, emerging community health and wellness trends related to underage substance use/misuse, and the power community teens have individually and collectively to impact peers, family and community norms and the world by making a personal commitment to live Above the Influence. Arthritis Foundation, Michigan Walk to Cure Arthritis, Grand Rapids
May 9, 7:30am-1:00pm

The Walk to Cure Arthritis raises funds and awareness to fight the nation's leading cause of disability. We aren't just helping the millions of people who live with arthritis pain, we're funding research that's getting us closer to a cure. The event features a three-mile and one-mile course, with arthritis information and activities for the entire family.

Different Volunteer Jobs are: Set Up which includes helping the Arthritis Foundation staff unload boxes from cars, putting up banners and signs, moving and setting up tables, putting directional signs and water on the course as well as making sure the course is clear of debris. Registration which includes helping with pre-registration, checking in those participants that have pre-registered, collecting donation envelopes, and distributing t-shirts to those who have raised $100. Walk-In Registration which includes helping those who are registering at the walk by having them complete a registration form and collecting donations. Clean Up which includes helping Arthritis Foundation staff carry boxes and load them into cars, break down empty boxes, take down banners and signs, take down and put away tables, walk the route to look for any participants that may still be walking, and look for any debris on the route. Conductive Learning CenterFifth Third River Bank Run
May 10, 6:30am-12pm

CLC is in need of 35 individuals (age 18 and up) to volunteer on our behalf for the Fifth Third River Bank. A group of 35 or more will earn CLC $350 to put toward student scholarships. The CLC group is assigned to a Runner Safety Station near Johnson Park from 6:30am to 12pm. Runner Safety volunteers are stationed along the race course to help direct participants, ensuring that they do not leave the official race route. Some assignments will require volunteers to assist participant transition through critical course locations. Volunteers also must manage spectators and keep them off the course. This position requires volunteers to be at least 18 years of age and be able to speak clearly, loudly and assertively and also listen to direction provided by police and security staff if needed. You will be required to stay for full time of your volunteer shift.Volunteers should be registered by March 31 in order to guarantee a t-shirt and free lunch will be available, however, names will still be accepted after this date. Michigan Disability Sports Alliance ~ Michigan Victory Games
May 14, 8pm-10pm 
Michigan Victory Games is a 5-day statewide athletic competition for individuals with physical disabilities. Event runs from May 14 to May 18, 2014. We have over 100 athletes participate and have an additional three teams participating this year. We are also hosting the National Boccia Tournament during our competition this year.
Volunteers will assist with transporting equipment, recording times/distances, assisting athletes, and with set up/tear down of venues. Eastown Community Association ~ Picnic in the Park
May 17, 9am-3pm

ECA is hosting a park clean-up, followed by a community picnic, free for all to enjoy! The park clean-up will begin at 9am and go until about 11am. A community picnic will follow at noon and go until 3ish. They will have food, kids activities, face painting, a bounce house, a visit from the GRFD, bands, and more! This is a great time to celebrate Eastown with your neighbors and enjoy a community celebration provided by the ECA. They are looking for college students to help with this event! They need help with the park clean-up at 9am and also volunteers to help with setting up the picnic, serving food, and leading kid's activities. Kent County Parks Discover! Millennium Parks Hansen Nature Trail Event

Kent County Parks is looking for volunteers to help with a free and fun discovery program for kids of all ages! The program also participants to come for a nature experience, learning about Millennium Park and its history while visiting docent nature stations along the Hansen Trail.
