This invasive weed grows in many of our County Parks and threatens the native species and natural habitats. Volunteer individuals or groups are needed to help pull and bag this weed! Heart of West Michigan United Way ~ KinderCamp!
August 20 & 21, 8:30am-11:30am
KinderCamp is designed to help prepare children and families for kindergarten. During KinderCamp, parents will receive tips on successful school communications, home organizers, parenting books, and contacts for other parents. Help get these kids and families off to a great school start! Volunteers are needed at Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Academy on Wednesday, August 20 and Thursday, August 21 from 8:30-11:30am to assist in parenting classes. Blandford Nature Center ~ Eco-Stewardship Invasive Species Control
August 23 & September 6, 9:30am-12:30pm
Join BNC's Volunteer Coordinator, Jessie, for an introduction in the main visitor center auditorium from 9:30-10am. She will start with a lesson on invasive non-native shrub and tree identification. Volunteers will learn to identify common invasive plants like buckthorn, privet and honeysuckle and then you will head out into the forest to practice your identification skills. Finally, you'll cut and treat those unwanted invaders improving habitat for native species. Please come prepared to work off the trail with warm clothes and sturdy shoes that could get dirty. Everyone is welcome to join for an hour or the full day. Susan G. Komen West MichiganRace for the Cure

The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® Series, the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world, raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease. The Susan G. Komen of West Michigan is in need of numerous volunteers and have a multitude of different shifts and jobs to sign up for such as set-up, passing out food and water, teardown, cheering on people on the course, and so much more. You can check them all out by going to http://ow.ly/zrF4r. Eastown Community Association ~ Street fair

Street fair celebrates art, music, food, and the Eastown community. This year's event will be on September 13 from 9 a.m.-8 p.m on Wealthy St. between Lake Dr. and Atlas. UICA ~ OddBall

UICA's OddBall is back for September 2014! This UICA signature event will showcase Collaboration, UICAs ArtPrize 2014 exhibition. UICA is excited for this year's event theme, Lux, which will feature a decadent and mysterious atmosphere. Volunteers are needed for a variety of different roles, including greeting guests, ID check, and gallery monitors. Alliance for the Great Lakes ~ September Adopt-A-Beach(TM)

Join the thousands of people caring for our Great Lakes during the Alliances September Adopt-a-Beach Event, part of the International Coastal Cleanup. Volunteers who participate in the event not only remove debris, they also record their findings. Holland Museum ~ Civil War Muster
September 20 & 21, 9am-9pm

Holland Museum is hosting its 6th annual Civil War Muster reenactment on the weekend of September 20 & 21, 2014 at the historic Van Raalte Farm in Holland, MI. This years free event features the Battles of Atlanta and Utoy Creek with two days worth of music, impressions of historical figures, performances, medical scenarios, period-style vendors, and (of course) battles. This years event is shaping up to be an exciting time and the museum is looking for volunteers to help with the festivities! They are looking for people to help out with registration, traffic control, special events, battlefield attendants, and much more! Both youth and adults are encouraged to volunteer. West Michigan Environmental Action Council ~ 11th Annual Mayors' Grand River Cleanup
September 20, 9am-10pm

Over the past decade, thousands of volunteers have come together to pick up more than 120,000 pounds of refuse from the banks of the Grand River. The event will again feature an after party sponsored by Founders Brewing Company with local craft beer and live music. Participants receive free refreshments, lunch, and T-shirt.Volunteers duties include picking up garbage along side the Grand River. ArtPrize
September 24-October 12

Every year ArtPrize volunteers come together in the early fall to help put on one of the world's largest art competitions. Whether you enjoy working behind the scenes or in the public eye, its people like you who breathe life into ArtPrize and make it the place to be every fall. ArtPrize offers a variety of volunteer opportunities to fit the needs and wants of our amazing volunteers! These opportunities include HUB Hospitality, Voter Registration, Wayfinding, ArtPrize Events, Leadership Positions, and a number of other positions. Volunteers are the ambassadors and tour guides of ArtPrize, providing visitors with assistance, answering questions, handing out maps, and providing hospitality in ArtPrize spaces. Want to volunteer with your friends, family, or coworkers? No Problem! We encourage group volunteering during ArtPrize; its a fun way to see art, extend hospitality to visitors, and spend time with your friends, family, and co-workers. South End Community Outreach Ministries (SECOM) ~ Playground Landscaping

Come help with landscaping for the new Little Steps at SECOM Preschool playground! Volunteers will lay down and spread bark chips, and complete other landscaping as needed. Volunteers should dress in comfortable clothing that can get dirty. This year marks the 5th anniversary of ArtPrize, and UICA is more excited than ever! This year's dates are September 24th-October 12th, and UICA is looking for a large group of volunteers to help them create a smooth and fun guest experience.
