Binder Park Zoo ~ The Great ZooBoo
October 15-30, 4:30pm-8:30pm (Wednesdays, Thursdays & Fridays), 12:00pm-5:00pm and 4:30pm-8:30pm

Its that time of year again! Community events like The Great Zoo Boo are perfect for local individuals, businesses and groups to get involved and make a difference in the lives of the thousands of children who walk the one of a kind Trick-or-Treat Trail, go for a hay ride and play fun games at the BooVille Carnival. Not only does the Great Zoo Boo offer an opportunity for families to spend an exciting evening together in a festive and safe environment, it also serves as the largest Zoo fundraiser of the year. The funds raised provide food and care for our animals through the winter months when the Zoo is closed.  The Zoo is closed Mondays and Tuesdays Times: Wednesday-Thursday-Friday: 4:30 pm - 8:30 pm (Gates close at 8:00 pm; volunteers are dismissed when last guest clears the volunteers area) Saturdays and Sundays: 12:30 pm - 5:00 pm First Shift 4:30 pm - 8:30 pm Second Shift (Gates close at 8:00 pm; volunteers are dismissed when last guest clears the volunteers area).  Min Volunteers/ Max Volunteers: 15-35. The number of volunteers needed varies per night; groups may be split up to cover all areas. South End Community Outreach Ministries ~ Tree Planting 
November 1st, 9:00am - 12:00pm

Join South End Community Outreach Ministries and Friends of Grand Rapids parks to help beautify our city.  Volunteers will help plant shade trees around the Little Steps at SECOM Preschool playground and elsewhere on SECOM's grounds, as well as assist with additional landscaping projects if time allows.  A short training will be provided on site.  No special skills or equipment are required, but volunteers are encouraged to dress for the weather.  For more information, please contact Stefanie Snyder at (616) 452-7684 or development@seccomministries.org.  Posted 10/13/14

United Way ~ Rake A Difference 
November 7th-8th, 8:00am - 12:00pm

Join the United Way as they host this event to support veterns, seniors, and individiauls with disabilities or financial hardships with yard cleanup. Volunteers can register individually or as a group and can participate either day. If you or someone you know needs help with raking or if you wish to register for the event, contact Shannon Morton, Director of Volunteerism at United Way, 396-7811 or email smorton@ottawaunitedway.org. Mary Free Bed RehabilitationJunior and Adult Pacers Wheelchair Basketball Tournament
November 8th-9th, 8am-4pm (Shifts Vary)
The Junior and Adult Pacers Wheelchair Basketball Tournament is hosted by the Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital Wheelchair and Adapative Sports Department. The Junior and Adult Pacers is a competitive sports program for full- or part-time wheelchair users; most participants have amputations, cerebral palsy, or spina bifida. Volunteers are needed at the East Rockford Middle School to assist in running the silent auction, keep score, work the concession stands, assist with the raffle, and run the clock shots. Literacy Center of West Michigan ~ Family Activity Night
November 11th 5:45pm-8:00pm

The Family Literacy Program provides a free English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to parents whose children attend participating Grand Rapids and Godwin Heights Public Schools. Volunteers will be needed to provide parents and children the best service in order to raise successful readers and learners! Volunteers can expect to help with sign in, prepare serve dinner, oversee and partcipate in activities, and prepare literacy materials. Gilda's Club ~ Glida's LaughFest

Holland Green Team ~ America Recycles Day
November 15th 9:00am-1:00pm (Shifts Vary)
The Holland Green Team is a collaboration between Grand Valley State University, Meijer Campus in Holland MI & Chef Container / Westshore Recycling with the purpose of delivering information to the residents of Western Michigan about recycling clothes, electronics, and pharmaceuticals! This event will need between 6 and 8 volunteers to help direct traffic and assist with sorting materials. T-shirts will be provided! SECOM ~ Stuff the Pantry Van
November 22nd 10:00am-3:00pm (Shifts Vary)
Help SECOM collect food and stock their pantry for this holiday season! Volunteers will pass out flyers to help promote the food collection during one of two shifts: 10am to 12:30pm and 12:30pm to 3pm. GVSU University Development ~ Toast with T. Haas
December 1st 5:30pm-8:30pm
Toast with T. Haas is an event held each semester in the Eberhard Center for graduating students to celebrate and take pictures. Volunteer duties include running check-in, greeting guests, passing out commemorative champagne flutes, and coat check - with a few things in between.
