Nonprofit Organizations & Community Partners
As a service to nonprofit organizations (with 501 c 3 status) in the Greater Grand Rapids area, the CSLC disburses information to the campus community including:
- one-time volunteer and community service opportunities
- on-going volunteer and community service opportunities
- nonprofit and community partner internship opportunities (in conjunction with GVSU's Laker Jobs *see below for further details)
We are unable to post opportunities for businesses or individuals without the 501 c 3 status. To post an opportunity with the CSLC, please visit our "submit a volunteer opportunity page." Please note that we also encourage nonprofit organizations to list their opportunities with the Heart of West Michigan United Way (Kent County) and Greater Ottawa County United Way (Ottawa County). Our staff regularly reviews the upcoming/ date specific opportunities to promote to campus and also encourage GVSU students to browse those opportunities.
The CSLC also coordinates community service and service-learning opportunities with local nonprofit organizations on a regular basis. We solicit opporunities for groups of students (typically 10 to 30+) for Make a Difference Day (held annually on the 4th Saturday in October), MLK Jr. Day of Service, as well as a number of other days of service.
The CSLC coordinates a Nonprofit Volunteer and Internship Fair each semester, typically in mid-September and mid-January. Nonprofit organizations are invited to register to attend. Please visit the Nonprofit Volunteer and Internship Fair page for additional information.
GVSU is also home to the Johnson Center for Philanthropy, an academic center focused on increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of the charitable sector. Their work involves conducting research, teaching effective practices, and providing pathways to service. They make a difference in three ways: enhancing the impact of foundations nationally and nonprofit organizations regionally, improving the quality of community decision-making in West Michigan, and developing the habit of civic engagement among students and faculty at Grand Valley State University.
Nonprofit and Community Partner Internship Opportunities
Opportunities will be posted on the CSLC's website as they are received and included in our electronic newsletter (sent every other week during the fall & winter semesters). Please note that the CSLC encourages nonprofit organizations to additionally post their internship opporunity directly on GVSU'S Laker Jobs. This website is coordiated by Career Services.
