Service Saturdays
Service Saturdays are a monthly service opportunity sponsored by Alternative Breaks and the CSLC that introduces students to non-profit agencies in the Greater Grand Rapids area. Service Saturdays are especially geared towards students with little service experience or are interested in checking out a new community agency! All GVSU students are welcome to join regardless of AB involvement. Sign up using the links below or stop by the CSLC!

Family LIFE Center (CSLC Sponsored)
April 20, 2013 ~ Kirkhof Center, Lobby Shop
This will be Alternative Breaks last Service Saturday of the semester. We will be doing indoor and outdoor spring cleaning for Family LIFE Center. Participants will meet in front of the Lobby Shop in Kirkhof Center at 9:45am and will carpool to the site. As always, bring a water bottle and pack a lunch! Alternative Breaks' first Service Saturday will be with Alternative Pathways. Volunteers will will be building picnic tables, staining a deck and doing yard work. Bring a water bottle and dress for the weather!

Make A Difference Day (CSLC Sponsored)

For the month of October, Alternative Breaks is promoting Make a Difference Day, a nationwide day of service, hosted by the CSLC. Volunteers will be volunteering with various non-profit organizations in the Grand Rapids community. Food and transportation will be provided. Comprenew (CSLC Sponsored)
December 8, 2012 ~ Kirkhof Center, Lobby Shop
Alternative Breaks' last Service Saturday for 2012 will be held at Comprenew. Volunteers will be dismantling and disassembling electronic waste (mostly computers) into individual parts to prevent them from ending up in landfill. Its a great way to hang out with friendly people, gain some service hours, and take out your aggression on inanimate objects! We will meet in front of the Kirkhof Center Lobby Shop, and carpool to the site. Service will be indoors, and dont forget to pack a lunch and a reusable water bottle! Alternative Breaks February Service Saturday will be with The Humane Society of West Michigan. Participants will meet in front of the Lobby Shop in Kirkhof Center and will carpool to the site. We will be assisting them with laundry, windows, sweeping, mopping and other little projects around the facility. As always, bring a water bottle and pack a lunch! At Love Inc. we will be working in their New to You resale store and at Comprenew we will be taking apart computers to recycle their parts.
