Service Saturdays are monthly service opportunities sponsored by the Community service Learning Center and the Alternative Breaks student organization that introduce students to community issues and nonprofit agencies in the Greater Grand Rapids area. Service Saturdays are especially geared towards students with little service experience or are interested in checking out a new community agency! All GVSU students are welcome to join regardless of AB involvement. Sign up using the links below or stop by the CSLC!
You will meet other new students and student leaders in Alternative Breaks, have fun, better understand the needs of our Greater Grand Rapids community, and learn about additional service opportunities available this fall! Connect with other service-minded students at GVSU!
If you are a student who has questions about this program, a student organization that would like to co-sponsor a Saturday, or a community organization that would like to serve as a site for Service Saturdays please contact Ryan Carrier at email@example.com.

Successful Service Saturdays 2014-15
Blandford Nature Center (CSLC Sponsored)
August 23, 2014
For the first Service Saturday of the 2014-15 school year, volunteers worked with Blandford Nature Center, a nonprofit that leases 143 acres of land to provide environmental education and community programs. Volunteers worked on the removal of invasive species, specifically buckthorn, to allow the typical plant life of the area to flourish.
September 2014 - Sustainable and Affordable Housing
Well House (CSLC Sponsored)
September 20, 2014
Our second Service Saturday of the year was hosted by Well House. Well House takes a housing first approach by providing immediate housing to homeless residents without the need to meet specific preconditions. With client-centered services, strategies are catered to specific subpopulations. Well House also encourages gentle living through recycling programs, energy conservation, farming, gardening, gathering, and preserving food. As volunteers, we removed invasive trees that were hindering garden growth, weeded and harvested garden beds, and organized storage areas.
