1 | STUDENT INFORMATION

This section only asks for the student's name and email, plus asks them to list any student organizations, service groups, other jobs, etc. they are involved with. 

2 | STUDENT ACADEMIC INFORMATION

This section asks for the student's academic information, including: class standing, academic major(s) and minor, and credit load. 

3 | EMPLOYEE INFORMATION

This sections asks students to identify their job title, description, and employer information. It also asks for their immediate supervisor's email address so that a copy of the SELP can be sent to the supervisor. 

4 | SELF-ASSESSMENT OF EMPLOYABLE QUALITIES

Students are explained that the presented qualities are skills employers are looking for in recent college graduates based on research conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE). 

Students are asked to self-evaluate themselves on how confident they feel in the following 7 qualities, which are placed in order of importance:

  1. Communication Skills
  2. Teamwork
  3. Problem Solving & Analyzing
  4. Flexibility & Adaptability
  5. Administrative Skills
  6. Cultural Sensitivity & Awareness
  7. Technology & Computer Literacy

5 | CAREER AND PROFESSIONAL GOALS

Students are asked to spend a few minutes answering the Career Center 5 Questions© and should be informed that there are no right or wrong answers:

  1. What are my interests, passions, and values?
  2. What are my skills and abilities?
  3. What steps can I take to test them out?
  4. Where do I want to go?
  5. How do I get there?

6 | STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES

The longest section, the Learning Outcomes section is designed to help students identify the skills and behaviors that will enhance their learning in five essential learning areas:

  • Critical Thinking, Creative Thinking & Problem Solving
  • Written & Oral Communication
  • Teamwork & Collaboration
  • Intercultural Knowledge & Competence        
  • Ethical Reasoning

Each dimension is defined for the student, including a set of qualities that LEAP states students should possess before graduating from a liberal arts institution.

The most important thing in this section is having the students self-identify and self-evaluate their abilities in each of the core areas. There are questions to help field responses.
