Uncommon Guests Join the BUS 201 Common Experience

On February 22, students across sections of BUS 201 Legal Environment for Business attended a common experience where they were treated to a rare glimpse into the experiences of three area judges. Judges Christopher Yates, Michigan Court of Appeals, Curt A. Benson, 17th Circuit Court for Kent County, and Terence J. Ackert, 17th Circuit Court for Kent County participated in a panel discussion moderated by GVSU alum, attorney Daniel J. Hatch. Hatch earned his BBA from Seidman College where he graduated magna cum laude. Following the event, here’s what Judge Yates had to say about the experience: “The students asked great questions. Our nation’s future is in good hands.”

"The Common Experience helps students connect the lecture and discussion components of our class while interacting with prominent members of the legal community. Students learn how business acts as a force for good in our world from those who help make this good a reality," says Catherine Jones-Rikkers, Associate Professor in the Department of Management.  Approximately 250 students attended in person while many more viewed the video online.
