Career Path: Migrant Farmworkers Project
Kate Lautenbach, a recent Grand Valley State University graduate, wanted to put her Spanish major to use serving others, but she never imagined where it would lead her.
Interested in non-profit organizations, Lautenbach found the perfect position in Kansas City, Missouri, as a migrant advocate with a non-profit organization known as the Migrant Farmworkers Project. The organization works with migrant workers to ensure that their health, educational and legal needs are being met, Lautenbach said. They have around 200 year-round clients, and during the apple season, an additional 400-500 migrants will come to work in the orchards and become clients as well.
