The GVSU Regional Math and Science Center and MAISD are pleased to be offering this two-day workshop opportunity for secondary science teachers in Fall 2015. Effective, Engaging Methods for Writing in Science  is designed to help teachers learn how to incorporate writing strategies into science instruction.

This two-day workshop series will look at ways that writing can be used in 6-12th grade classrooms that are effective, will engage students, and provide avenues for evaluating student learning. Participants will be provided with pedagogical tools designed to facilitate student learning and deepen conceptual understanding of the NGSS practices 7 and 8:

  • Engaging argument from evidence.
  • Obtaining, evaluating, and communicating information.

Audience:     Secondary science teachers, grades 6th - 12th

Location:      MAISD - Hamler Administration Building, Stanton

Dates:           September 30 and October 27

Facilitators:  Kathy Agee & Karen Meyers

Cost (includes lunch):             

  • Teachers in Montcalm County: $10 for the two days - substitute reimbursement provided through grant funding
  • Teachers in Ionia, Clinton, Gratiot, Isabella, Clare, and Gladwin counties - $30 for the two days
  • All others - $45 for the two days
