Facing Mars Exhibit and Teacher Workshops Are Coming to the Public Museum of Grand Rapids

The “Facing Mars:  Would You Survive the Journey?” exhibit is coming to the Public Museum of Grand Rapids, February 11 – May 6, 2012! This exhibition has more than 20 thought-provoking and interactive stations, strong curriculum links and STEM-related content. The cost for the exhibit is $4 plus Museum general admission (which includes “Our Bodies in Space” planetarium show.)

Teacher Workshops

The Regional Math and Science Center, in collaboration with the Museum, is offering two workshops for teachers (grades 5-8) of science and/or technology.

The guest presenter, Susan Kohler, Education Specialist with the NASA Glenn Research Center, will show teachers how to bring engineering and the adventure of space exploration to life for students. The workshops will include a free preview of the exhibit and lesson plans developed by the museum planetarium director. Both workshops will take place at the Public Museum of Grand Rapids.

Two workshops are currently being planned:
• Friday, February 10, 2012: Full day workshop from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm (preview of the exhibit included within this time frame).  Lunch is provided.
• Saturday, February 11, 2012: ½ day workshop from 8:30 am – 12:30 pm (preview of the exhibit optional following the workshop).  Breakfast is provided.

Each workshop is $10.  The Facing Mars brochure and registration information can be found under “Upcoming Events” on the GVSU Regional Math and Science website at www.gvsu.edu/rmsc. For more information contact Kathy Agee at ageek@gvsu.edu or (616) 331-2267.
