Enjoy a Summer Family Program at the Wittenbach/Wege Agriscience and Environmental Education Center
Don’t spend your summer inside! Join us for these great family programs!
Rain Barrel Workshop
Tuesday, June 8th 6:00-7:00 p.m.
Want to do something good for the earth that will also save you money? Join us for a rain barrel workshop. At the workshop, participants will build their own rain barrel to take home to collect rain water and use for watering plants. Cost is $35 per rain barrel (all materials are included). Grand Rapids residents can attend the workshop for free thanks to the City of Grand Rapids, the Coca Cola Company and the West Michigan Environmental Action Council. This program is a great way for Connecting Families with Nature participants to earn a stewardship stamp! Space is limited so registration is required. Call 616-987-1002 to register.
Bug Hunt
Tuesday, June 22nd 6:00-7:30 p.m.
Join us as we go on an adventure in search of six-legged animals living at the WWC. We’ll learn what an arthropod is and the difference between insects and spiders. We’ll use nets, magnifying glasses and field guides to try and identify our discoveries. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the most abundant group of animals on the planet and also earn a Connecting Families with Nature Passport stamp! Cost is $5 per family. Call 616-987-1002 to register or for more information.
Wetland Wonders
Tuesday, July 20th 6:00-7:30 p.m.
Do you know what a wetland is? You will after this program! Join us as we get our hands wet exploring the plants and animals that call our wetland home. We’ll use our sense of sight, touch, hearing and smell to learn about this unique environment. This is a great opportunity to earn a Connecting Families with Nature Passport stamp! Cost is $5 per family. Call 616-987-1002 to register or for more information.
Wildlife Watch
Tuesday, August 10th 6:00-7:30 p.m.
Wildlife is all around us at the WWC. Sometimes the animals are sleeping while we are out and about during the day but they leave behind all sorts of clues to let us know they were there. Join us for a hike through various habitats in search of animal clues. We’ll see if we can put those clues together to determine what animals call the WWC home. Binoculars are welcomed. This is a great opportunity to earn a Connecting Families with Nature Passport stamp! Cost is $5 per family. Call 616-987-1002 to register or for more information.
