Description
The Golden Wrench is a peoples choice route setting competition designed to not only test our route setter's ability to set fun & interesting routes but to provide them with valuable feedback for improving their setting skills.
Requirements:
- Must be a GV Student, faculty, or staff
member
- Must be a GV approved route setter at the time of
registration
- Must pre-register (RSVP) for the competition
before Wednesday, January 18th.
General Outline:
Competitors will set 1 boulder problem and 1 top rope route. The
location of where each competitor will set will be drawn at
random. The difficulty or each route may be decided by the competitor
but must fall between V1-V4 & 5.8-5.10a. Setters will have
approximately 3.5 hours to complete both routes. To avoid location
conflicts, the event times may be extended and broken into 2 shifts if
participation is high.
Each route will be graded by the open hours users, fellow competitors, staff, and Vertical Earth members over the course of ~one week. Grades will be based on the following 4 criteria: Creativity, Grade Accuracy, Fun, & Forced Sequences. A time bonus will also be factored in based on a designated time allowance.
Register using the RSVP Link above. Registration will close Thursday, Jan. 18th.
