RACHEL M.

Rachel grew up in Northville, MI. She is currently a junior at GVSU, majoring in Clinical Exercise Science. She started working for Campus Rec her first semester of her freshman year. This will be her second year as a Campus Rec instructor. She has expanded her love for fitness by recently obtaining a TRX certification. She hopes to share her love of exercising with those seeking to improve their lifestyles through health and fitness.

 

EUNICE

Eunice is originally from Chicago, IL. She is currently pursuing her degree in Exercise Science with a Health-Fitness emphasis and will obtain a coaching certification. She is passionate about health and fitness and loves sharing her passion by teaching others. Her current plan is to graduate in 2014 and continue on to graduate school. Over the next few years, she wishes to become certified in other fitness fields to expand her knowledge and love for exercising. She always loves seeking new forms of exercise and is open to trying anything. Eunice also works with the Fieldhouse staff and in the Fitness and Wellness Center. Do not hesitate to say hi if you see her around!

 

TIFFANY

Tiffany is originally from Kalamazoo. She is currently attending graduate school at Grand Valley pursuing her doctorate in Physical Therapy.Her undergraduate degree in Clinical Exercise Science. She enjoys soccer, running, tennis, and volleyball. She is also first aid and CPR certified.

 

RACHEL B.

Rachel is originally from North Muskegon, MI. She and her husband lived in North Carolina and Pennsylvania during his enlistment with the United States Marine Corps before moving back to West Michigan where they now reside. Rachel is a graduate of Hope College, where she majored in Special Education – Learning Disabilities. She is certified as a group exercise instructor and PiYo instructor and hoping to gain YogaFit and Piyolet certifications this year. Rachel strives to make her classes challenging, engaging and restorative for participants of all ages and fitness levels. 

 

AMANDA

Amanda is originally from Macomb MI.  She is currently Majoring in Psychology and political Science. Her planned graduating date is on 2015.She plans to go to law school and with that go into corporate or medical malpractice law.  Her favorite thing about working for Campus Recreation is that it is such a relaxed working environment and everyone is so nice. She likes the fact that everyone who she has encountered here so far is very nice and friendly.

 

 

HILLARY D.

Hillary grew up in Saint Joseph, Michigan.  She is a junior at GVSU, majoring in Elementary Education with an emphasis in English/ Language Arts.  She started working for Campus Rec her first semester of junior year as a Zumba mentee of the Mentorship Program.  She had obtained her Zumba certification in February 2012, and has been involved with Zumba for the past three years.  She hopes to engage students into loving Zumba as much as she does and provide them with an exciting experience to help shape their lifestyles. Not only did Zumba become a part of her life, but it can become a part

of yours as well!

ASHLEY

Ashley is from Belleville MI.  After graduation she would like to become a certified strength and conditioning specialist and also attend physical therapy school here at Grand Valley. She is currently certified in SPINNING, CPR/AED and First Aid. She likes working at the Rec because she likes to help people lead healthier lives. Something interesting about Ashley is that she is a fraternal twin. 

 

 

JUSTIN

Justin is graduating this December and is hoping to work with elite athletes on strength and conditioning before going to graduate school for physical therapy. Justin is originally from Kalamazoo Michigan. He is certified in CPR and First Aid. In his free time Justin enjoys playing tennis and basketball and also likes weight lifting. Justin enjoys working at Campus Rec because of the opportunity to connect with the student body in an environment that is fun and in the field he wanted to be in. 

 

JONA

Jona grew up in the small town of Newaygo MI. After moving to the Grand Rapids area in 2010, she obtained her Personal Training certification through NATE, and shortly after became a Balanced Body trained Pilates instructor. Jona is passionate about teaching others safe and effective exercise techniques that will help them in sports, or even just in everyday life. From football to ballet, the Pilates workout can help to strengthen the core and prevent injuries. Jona looks forward to a career in the Pilates industry.

 

 

AMY

Amy is a full-time professional staff member in the Campus Recreation Dept. She is a certified personal trainer and SPINNING instructor.

 

JASON

Jason is from Royal Oak MI and is going to school for athletic training and biomedical science. After graduation, he plans on getting his maters and performing a graduate assistantship. His favorite part about working at Campus Rec is the “laid back” attitude and everyone is there to have fun. He has certified in CPR, First Aid, massage Assistive Stretching training, and Kineseo Taping. He has many hobbies like football, baseball, and camping lawn games. He has a passion about helping people feel better in all health aspects of their lives

 

   

JACLYN

Jaclyn is originally from Hartland, MI. She is majoring in Exercise Science. She is YogaFit certified and enjoys sharing her love of fitness with others. She is graduating this coming April. After graduation, she plans on either attending Occupational Therapy School or a RYT-200 Yoga Certification Program. She loves to help people meet their fitness goals. Something unique about her is that she is on a leadership team working with Women's Ministry for His House Christian Fellowship.

 

ASHTON

Ashton is from East Tawas, MI. Fall 2010 is her first semester teaching for Campus Recreation as a Zumba instructor. She is a student at Grand Valley State University. Ashton is pursuing a degree in health and physical education. She wishes to teach more Zumba classes and Zumbatomic classes for children in the future. She enjoys a fun workout and hopes to continue to explore the various avenues of the fitness industry..

LINDSEY

Lindsey is originally from Cheboygan, MI. She is a professional staff member in the Human Resources department, serving as the Wellness Coordinator. She teaches many class formats including Yoga, SPINNING, and Water.

 

SAMANTHA 

Samantha is working on a major in Allied Health Science while working on a minor in psychology. After graduation in Spring 2015, she is planning on working as an occupational therapist.  She is from Charlotte MI and is CPR certified. Samantha loves working at Campus Rec because it is a great way to get to know a variety of people and also being presented with so many wonderful opportunities. An interesting fact about Samantha is that she is the only person in her family with red hair.  

 

OUEN

Ouen’s name is pronounced ‘Wen’. She is originally from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and is currently living in Jenison, MI. She is the current Campus Recreation Fitness G.A. and is pursuing a Master of Science degree in biostatistics at GVSU. She started working for Campus Recreation in winter 2010. She enrolled in a one credit Kickboxing class when she was an undergraduate, since then she has been actively involved in various fitness classes. She loves to Spin and enjoys teaching Spin classes.

 

 

DEB

Deb is from Martin, MI and started spinning six years ago.  She has been an instructor for three years. She is a passionate Spinning instructor and enjoys teaching intro and interval formats. She has served as a mentor instructor to new SPINNING instructors on our staff.  Deb is also the Marketing Director for GVSU Campus Dining.

EMILY

Emily is originally from the small town of Corunna, IN. She is majoring in Exercise Science. Emily started working for Campus Recreation in the Fall of 2012 after which she decided to pursue her certification in SPINNING. She loves how she is constantly challenged to motivate others in new ways and how helping them expands her own knowledge of the field

 

 

 

 

SHANNON

Shannon E-RYT, became certified to teach yoga in 2001 at Kripalu, the largest center for yoga and health in the country.  She teaches safe and creative yoga classes that encourage and challenge a diverse population.

 

JORDYN

Jordyn is from Owosso Michigan. She is planning to graduate in April 2015. She is earning her degree in Athletic Training. She is currently certified in CPR/AED and First Aid. After graduation, she is planning on getting her masters in Physical Therapy while finding a job as an athletic trainer. She loves the working with everyone at campus rec. something that makes Jordyn unique is that her arms are doubled jointed. 

 

GINA

Gina is originally from Howell, Michigan. She is currently majoring in Dance, Hospitality, and Tourism Management. She is a certified Zumba instructor and is very excited to teach. Always expect to have a fun and exciting time when participating in her Zumba classes. She lives to inspire, create, and always have a good time!

 

DUSTIN

Dustin is a GVSU alumnus with a degree in Exercise Science and is from Madison Heights, Michigan. He is a member of the professional staff and is certified in SPINNING, First Aid, CPR, and AED, and ACSM Certified health Fitness Specialist. He loves helping individuals of all fitness levels take steps to improve their health and overall quality of life. Something unique about Dustin is that he is an ordained reverend through the Universal Life Church. 

 

JUSTIN

Justin is from Canton Michigan and earning a degree in Clinical Exercise Science. He already has an associate’s degree in Allied Health Science and plans on graduating with his B.S. sometime in 2014. After that he plans on going to graduate school. Justin is certified in CPR/AED and NASM CPT. His favorite part about working at Campus Rec is being able to meet new people. Something interesting about Justin is that he has played junior hockey in Canada and Oregon. 

 

SABRINA

Sabrina is originally from Ontario, Canada. She is currently a nursing major at Grand valley and enjoys playing soccer, pond hockey, and running small marathons. Her dream is to live in Italy and hopefully one day become fluent in the Italian language. She is a health nut and really enjoys teaching Turbokick and Spin classes. She believes that oldies music energizes and jazzes up her classes and loves to see everyone leave with a sweaty shirt and a cheerful face.

 

WENDI

Wendi is a GVSU graduate and holds numerous fitness certifications including SPINNING, group exercise, and personal training. She has two daughters and teaches at multiple fitness facilities in and around Grand Rapids. She enjoys interacting with people and introducing them to fitness classes. Something interesting about Wendi.....she is an identical twin!

 

ERICA

Erica is from Shelby Twp. MI and is earning a degree in Exercise Science with Health/Fitness emphasis. She is graduating this coming May. After graduating, she is heading back to Disney for a professional internship in Fitness. She is certified in CPR/AED and First Aid and is working on becoming an ACSM Group Exercise instructor. Erica really loves working at Campus Rec for the fact that the Faculty/Staff are so committed and put so much time and effort into the workers to better them for the future. She looks forward to using all the skills she has gained from this job and appreciates every moment of it. Something interesting that has happened to her is that she had to get 26 stitches above her eye due to a restaurant umbrella coming unlatched and hitting her in the eye. 

 

WOBIT

Wobit is from Grand Rapids Michigan.  She is graduating this coming spring with a degree in Clinical Exercise Science. After graduating, she is going to look for full time employment. Her certifications include CPR/AED and First Aid. She loves working at the Wellness Center meeting new clients and everyone working at Campus Rec helps make each other’s lives better. Something Wobit finds interesting about her is that people have told her she has the most bizarre method of getting into a backbend. 

 

 

 

RACHEL B.

Rachel has been enjoying teaching group exercise classes for Campus Recreation since 2009. She holds certifications in group exercise and PiYo and is working towards a YogaFit certification. Rachel finds Pilates and PiYo to be the perfect formats for helping participants find peace and relaxation while improving breath and body awareness, whole body strength and flexibility, and mind/body connections. Her classes are positive and easy to follow regardless of previous Pilates or Yoga experience. Rachel strives to ensure that her classes are challenging, engaging and restorative for participants of all ages and fitness levels. 

NICKY

Nicky is originally from Traverse City, MI. She works as a dental assistant and lives in Grand Rapids with her husband and her cat. She was a professional dancer, trained in ballet and contemporary. She is a YogaFit certified and wishes to be a Registered Yoga Teacher in the future. Her classes are fun and easy to follow.

 

BROOKE

Brooke is from Port Huron, Michigan. She is majoring in psychology at Grand Valley State University. After figure skating for over ten years, she began practicing yoga. She became motivated to teach yoga through her participation in Campus Recreation Mind/Body classes. She currently holds Level 1 and Level 2 YogaFit certifications and plans to continue her yoga education.

KATELIN

Katelin grew up in Clarksville, MI. She graduated December 2012, with a Clinical Exercise Science degree for Pre-Physical Therapy. She is currently completing her internship at the YMCA in Grandville. She applied to Graduate school for Physical Therapy and plans on receiving a doctorate degree in the future. She is working towards getting CSCS certified for strength and conditioning. It is her first semester teaching classes, and already loves it. She cannot wait to learn and teach more!  

HILLARY

Hillary is from Albion, MI and currently works for Ottawa County. She has numerous fitness certifications including Group Exercise Instructor, Zumba, and Turbokick. She enjoys teaching because she likes to get the participants hyped about exercise!
 

LEE

Lee  is currently the Fitness Graduate Assistant for Campus Recreation. She obtained her Bachelor's degree in Clinical Exercise Science from GVSU and used her degree to teach classes and train clients out in Denver, CO. She moved back to begin her Master's degree in Higher Education. Lee was first certified in Spinning and she continues to love teaching these classes. In addition, she is certified in TRX and is very passionate about teaching others about all that you can do on the TRX trainer.
