Q: What classes do you offer?
A: The classes we offer depend on our instructors and the types of classes they are trained to teach.  The class times and formats vary based on space and instructor availability.  If a class is on the schedule at a certain day or time, it doesn't necessarily mean that it will be offered that same day and time the next semester.  Most of our instructors are students and their schedules vary.  If you go to our website at www.gvsu.edu/rec and click Group Exercise & Mind/Body, the link to the class schedules and descriptions can be found there approximately 2 weeks prior to the start of the semester.

Q: Where do I purchase my pass?
A: Passes are purchased online by going to the Campus Recreation homepage located at www.gvsu.edu/rec, then click Group Exercise & Mind/Body and the link to purchase your pass should be on the page.  Go through the steps to purchase your pass online.  If you are a student, your purchase will be tied to your id card.  You then just show your student ID card to get into classes. If you are a non-student, you will be issued an id card after your purchase is complete.  You will receive an automated email with instructions on picking up your keycard which will get you into classes.

Q: How do I login to purchase my pass? Do I need a user profile?
A: You will need your student login and password. You will then create a profile.

Q: Once I purchased my pass online, where do I go to pick it up?
A: If you are a student, faculty or staff, your GVSU ID is your pass.

Q: Where is the Fitness and Wellness Center?
A: The Fitness and Wellness Center is located downstairs in the Recreation Center by the basketball courts and the daily lockers.

Q: What classes require registration?
A: All of our classes are drop-in, except for SPINNING and TRX.  All SPIN and TRX classes require registration; registration opens 24 hours before the class starts. All bikes and TRX trainers are reserved through our online reservation system. A link is found on the Group Exercise and Mind/Body webpage.

Q: Why do I need to register for a class?
A: There are a limited number of bikes and TRX trainers in the studio; if you register you are guaranteed a place in the class.

Q: How do I reserve a SPIN bike or TRX trainer?
A: You must visit www.gvsu.edu/rec and select the “reserve your SPIN bike/TRX trainer” link.  At that point you will be asked for your login so we know whose name to register the bike under.  Choose which class you want to reserve a spot. If your class is not appearing it may be too early to register.

Q: Can I register for a class for the whole semester?
A: Registration opens up no more than 24 hours before the class is scheduled. You have to reserve your bike/trainer each time you wish to attend a class.
All other classes are first-come, first-served and open to pass holders.

Q: What if I bought my pass online, but the scanner denies my pass? Will I be turned away?
A: If you bought your pass online the scanner should recognize it. If not, it may be a technical error or you may have purchased the wrong pass. You will be allowed to partake in any of the exercise classes if this does occur, but staff will take down your information to ensure that your pass will not be denied again.

Q: I am affiliated with GVSU (student/ faculty/ staff) and I do not know my login and password. What do I do?
A: If you are a student, faculty or a staff at GVSU, your login and password is the same as your login and password that you use to access any computers on campus.  If you need assistance, contact the Fitness & Wellness Center.

Q: What if I buy the wrong type of pass?
A: No worries. If you buy the wrong pass, just contact the Fitness & Wellness Center. They will take your information and your pass will be adjusted and you will be credited (or charged) the correct amount.

Q: If I am a community member with a fieldhouse membership where can I park and do I need a parking pass?
A: If you are a community member you need to purchase a parking pass at Public Safety in order to park on campus before 6:30pm.  The closest lot to the Rec Center is lot F.  After 6pm parking passes are not necessary in the student lot F right outside the Recreation Center.

Q: Where is Public Safety?
A: Public Safety is located off Service Drive by the Alumni House. If you have difficulties finding the location or have questions then contact Public Safety at (616) 331-3255.

Q: Where are the Mind and Body Classes located?
A: They are located in the multipurpose rooms on the lower level of the Kelly Family Sports Building which is located behind the Fieldhouse.

Q: Do I have to buy my pass by the day classes start?
A: You can purchase your pass anytime throughout the semester.

Q: Will I have to buy a new pass for every semester?
A: Yes.  All passes are good for one semester and a new one will need to be purchased at the start of each semester.

Q: Can I attend a class before I purchase my pass to see if I enjoy it?
A: No, we do not offer try it before you buy it options.  You may sit and observe, however, you cannot physically participate.
